LOUIS K. GROHARING - Funeral arrangements are complete for Louis K. Groharing, 74, former mayor of Prophetstown, who died Monday in Brandon, Fla. Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Olson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the Cancer Society.
Mr. Groharing was born Sept. 19, 1896, in Carroll County, the son of William and Lucinda Welch Groharing. Mr. Groharing was a member of the Prophetstown City Council for 27 years. He served as mayor of the city for eight years, from 1957-1965. He was a past master of the masonic lodge; past patron of the OES. He married Lela Nace. On Sept. 20, 1924 he married Bernice Powell. They lived in Prophetstown before retiring to Florida several years ago. Mr. Groharing was a masonry contractor and yard manager for the Rock River Lumber and Grain Co.
Survivors are the widow; one son, Louis Jr., California; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Carol) Blair, Tampa, Fla.; Mrs. Eldon (Lois Jean) Martin, Brandon, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. -- Contributed by Barbara Nugent - Sterling Daily Gazette Date: 31 Mar 1971.
