RACINE - Brandon M. Zimmerman, age 20, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at his home in Racine. Brandon was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Oct. 22, 1985, son of Mark C. and Karen R. (Nabholz) Zimmerman. Brandon was a graduate of The Prairie School, class of 2004, in Racine, where he excelled in basketball, soccer, and was named Scholar Athlete of the Year and Prom King in his class. He was preparing to enter his junior year at UW-Madison. Brandon was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Brandon will be remembered by all who knew him as a true friend who was selfless, loving, unassuming, laid-back and warm-hearted. Brandon gifted to family and friends his unwavering and unconditional love, together with memories of his perpetually positive attitude that will live on in our hearts forever. Survivors include Brandon's parents, Mark and Karen Zimmerman of Racine; his three brothers, Jake, Zachary and Grant; his grandparents, Barbara Zimmerman, and Shirley and Richard Thayer; his aunts and uncles, Susan Zimmerman, Gregg (Marianna) Zimmerman, Ross (Anna) Zimmerman, Kris (Gordon) Meicher, Ken Nabholz, Vicki Nabholz and Sharon (Ken) Woodford; his cousins, Ryan, Olivia and Connor Zimmerman, Alycia and Melanie Zimmerman, Jenny, Cindy and David Meicher, and Leanna and Megan Woodford; and many dear friends. Brandon's family is planning a celebration of Brandons life, to be held at GRACE CHURCH, 3626 Highway 31, Racine, on Thursday, July 20, 2006, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carol R. Baumgartner and the Rev. James W. Niederloh officiating. Private interment will be held. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the MARESH-MEREDITH AND ACKLAM FUNERAL HOME, Racine, on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Donations may be sent to the family for a memorial to be established in Brandon's name at The Prairie School.

MCFARLAND?MADISON -- Kenneth Paul Nabholz, age 52, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at his sister's home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by his loving family, Ken's journey into everlasting life was peaceful. He was born in Madison, on Nov. 5, 1955, to Paul and Shirley (Knickmeyer) Nabholz. Ken was able to work and live in a variety of jobs and places because of his ability to get along well with all those he came in contact with. He was a skilled carpenter while living in Madison, Arizona, and most recently, McFarland. Ken also worked in the maintenance and shipping departments of the University of Wisconsin and UPC Inc., respectively. He will be remembered for his kind heart, wonderful sense of humor, and his loving, easy going nature. Ken was a true friend, wonderful brother and loving son. He was a lifelong Packers fan, win or lose, and was fortunate enough to see his team play at Lambeau field. Ken also believed this was the year they would make it to the Super Bowl. He loved nature and the great outdoors. Ken enjoyed hunting and fishing, much of which he learned from his grandfather. He also spent many summers on his great-uncle's farm, harvesting crops and caring for livestock. Ken is survived by his mother, Shirley (Richard) Thayer of Madison; sisters, Kristy (Gordon) Meicher of Middleton, Vicki Nabholz of Oxnard, Calif., Karen (Mark) Zimmerman of Racine and Sharon Nabholz-Woodford of Finchburg; nieces and nephews, Jenny (Steve) Santek, Cindy and David Meicher, Jake, Zachary and Grant Zimmerman, and Leanna and Megan Woodford; aunt, Audrey Graack; first cousins, Steve, Michael and Scott Nabholz; step-brothers, Timothy, Robert, Thomas and Bill (Missy) Theyer; step-sister, Theresa (David) Brengle; as well as many other relatives and friend. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Nabholz; grandparents, Frank and Jensina Knickmeyer and Henry and Alva Droster; uncle, Stephen Nabholz; aunts, Mildred Blake and Elizabeth Nabholz; and nephew, Brandon Zimmerman. Funeral services will be held at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2165 Linden Ave., Madison, at noon on Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, with the Rev. Patrick Siegler presiding. The bride's father read the single ring service, assisted by the Rev. Otis Moore, of the South Bethel Methodist church.

The wedding march, "Bride of the Wind" was played by Miss Eleanor Pfaff, a friend and classmate of the bride. Little Loraine Martin, niece of the bride, was flower girl and carried the ring in the heart of a white lily. The bride was attended by Miss Ruby Welty and Frank Whipple was best man. The bride wore a white satin gown with a veil gathered on each side with orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of pink tea roses, carnations and baby's breath. The bridesmaid wore a flowered chiffon gown with white accessories.

After the ceremony a buffet dinner was served 60 relatives and friends by the Misses Rachel Howard, Eva Bolin and Florence Jorgenson.

The bride is a graduate of the Tipton high school and attended the St. Luke's hospital school of nursing, Cedar Rapids. Mr. Nabholz is a farmer and after a short wedding trip, the new home will be on a farm near Shellsburg.

Jay Nabholz

Shellsburg-Jay W. Nabholz, 83 died Monday morning, May 8, 1989, at Virginia Gay Annex, in Vinton, where he had been a patient the past four months.

He was born on the farm in Benton Township of Benton County where he had lived all of his life, to John George and Molly (Wilt) Nabholz. June 12, 1934, he married Florence E. Staub at her parents' home in Tipton Iowa.

As an active Benton county farmer, Mr. Nabholz served as Benton Township Accesors for 16 years, and served as secretary on the Farmers Mutual Telephone Board in Shellsburg for 36 years. He was a member of Grace Trinity Church in Shellsburg and the Benton City Masonic Lodge No. 81, A.F. & A.M. of Shellsburg for 50 years having served as past Master and as MI and DI. he was also a member of the El Kahir Shrine & Scottish Rite Consistory of Cedar Rapids.

He is survived by his wife, Florence of Shellsburg; three daughters, Vivian Eileen (Mrs. Earl Smith) of council Bluffs, Bonnie Jean (Mrs. Frederic) Marshe of Jacksonville Beach, Fl, and Ann Thimmesch of West Burlington; and five grandchildren, David and Mark Smith, and Matthew, Jenna and Jayne Thimmesch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Orvie and Ray Nabholz; and one sister, Mamie Nabholz Fish.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 11 at Grace Trinity Church in Shellsburg with Rev. Gary Gustafson, church pastor, and Rev. Warren Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.

Friends may call at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in vinton from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 that evening and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church in Shellsburg.

Services:10:30 a.m. Thursday, Grace Trinity Church Burial: Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, where an Order of Eastern Star service begins at 6:30 p.m. The Revs. Bob Dennert of The Meth-Wick Community and Greg Judy of Grace Trinity Church will offciate.

Albert William Straub, son of William and Mary Straub, was born August 4, 1880, in Muscatine county, Iowa, and met his tragic death in a car accident on the evening of December 2, 1948, at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 28 days.

At the early age of six years, he came with his parents to Cedar county, where he spent the greater part of his life.

On February 20, 1900, he was united in marriage to Lettie Whitmer. To this union were born six children. Mr. and Mrs. Straub resided near Lime City in Cedar County. The last few years they have resided in Tipton.

Mr. Straub always loved people and was always interested in their welfare. In early manhood, he began Christian work and preached at various intervals for thirty-five years. He held pastorates at Mt. Zion, Rochester, Bennett, South Bethel and Buchanan, and several other churches of the vicinity.

Mr. Straub was a member of the Odd Fellows Manitou Lodge No. 8. He served as chaplain of the local Masonic Lodge.

Those preceding him in death, are his father, one sister, Elsie Schminke, and an infant daughter.

Those who mourn his departure are his wife Lettie, one son Elmer Straub of Wilton Junction, and four daughters, Mrs. Albert Martin, Tipton, Mrs. J. Nabholz, Shellsburg, Mrs. Gene Culberson, Tipton, Mrs. Kenneth Jordan, Arcadia, California, 13 grandchildren, 2 brothers, George and Talbert, both of Tipton, his mother Mrs. Mary Straub of Tipton, besides a host of friends.

Funeral services were held in the First Methodist church, Monday December 6th, at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Leo G. Wolfe, and assisted by Gordon Smith of Clarence. Interment in the Masonic cemetery.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Grace Trinity Chruch, Shellsburg, by the Rev. Glen High. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation: 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton.

Vivian was born June 21, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, to Jay and Florence (Straub) Nabholz of Marion.

She is survived by her sister, Ann (James) Holt; and several nieces and nephews.

Bonita Jane Nabholz Marche, 58, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Shellsburg; passes away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 9, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Jay W. and Florence Nabholz of Shellsburg. She was employed in Jacksonville at Shands Hospital Radiology Department.

Survivors include her husband, Fred; two sons, David (Erica) Smith and Mark (Deborah) Smith; two sisters, Vivian (Earl) Smith and Ann (Jim) Holt; grandchildren Jacob, Julia, Austin and Avery; a nephew, Matt Thimmesch; and nieces Jenna Myers and Jayne Thimmesch.

Miss Nabholz, a graduating senior from Shellsburg high school. is in her 7th year of 4-H.

Tom, son of Mrs. Harold Bockholt, Keystone, is a junior at the Keystone High School where he is active in basketball and other activities. Tom is serving currently as the boys' county 4-H president.

Magdalena Beihardt was born on 8 September 1898 in Austria-Hungary. She married George Buxton Fitz, son of Henry Harrison Fitz and Susan Elizabetha Buxton, on 27 May 1922 in Summit Co., OH, Lena was first married to Anton Hiegl. As of the 1920 census they had two children, Edward (b.1917) and Stephen (b.1919). The marriage apparently broke up shortly thereafter, as Anton/Anthony Hiegl lived until 1951, per Social Security records. Stephen Hiegl grew up to be Lt. Col. Stephen Hiegl and passed in 2012. Edward took the name of one of her subsequent husbands, Earl Miller and died in Houston in 1972. DLB 2019. Magdalena Beihardt died in July 1942 in Massillon, Stark Co., OH.

Magdalena Beihardt was also known as "Lena" Beihardt.
