Edith B. Wile, Retired Chemist

Edith B. Wile, a retired state chemist who enjoyed painting and writing, died of cancer Thursday at her home in Linthicum. She was 71.

A 20-year state employee, she retired eight years ago from the air quality control division of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

The former Edith Mary Boyd was a native of Baltimore and a 1935 graduate of Eastern High School. She received a bachelor's degree from the Johns Hopkins University in 1946. Mrs. Wile -- who was co-author of several scientific papers during her career -- began work 10 years ago on a science fiction project. The book, "One Way Weekend," was published this past year.

Mrs. Wile also enjoyed painting in oils and watercolors.

Her husband, Edmund Wile, died in 1967.

She is survived by three daughters, M. Penny Allenbaugh of Pasadena, Christine R. Wile of Baltimore, and Cathleen Wile of Toledo, Ohio; a son, Carl E. Wile of Linthicum; and three grandchildren.

Private services will be held 2 P.M. tomorrow at the McCully funeral establishment, 237 East Patapsco Ave. in Brooklyn.

Nicholas "Nick" Edward James Yeager, 28, of Renfrew, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, in Thomasville, Ga.

He was born Jan. 14, 1982, in Pittsburgh, the son of Edward Francis Yeager and the late Claudette Marie Streily Yeager. He was a graduate of Seneca Valley High School and Clarion University. He was recently employed in the Management Department of the Publix Grocery Stores in Thomasville, Ga. He enjoyed his family, friends, country music and dirt track racing. He is survived by his father and mother, Edward and Carrie Deneen Yeager, of Renfrew; two brothers, Shawn Yeager, of Allison Park, and Zachary Yeager, of Renfrew; grandparents, Ginny Yeager, of Valencia, Alice Streily, of Allison Park, and Byron and Bonnie Collier, of Clarion; and also many aunts, uncles and cousins. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandfathers, George Yeager and Jim Streily.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the HERBERT R. KING FUNERAL HOME, 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park.
