Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):
Former Perry resident Ruby Maxine Harlow,78, most recently of Stillwater passed from this life on Saturday, October 25, 2014 with her family by her side.
Ruby Maxine Brown was born on August 28, 1936 to Harvey and Lula (Joy) Brown in Woodward, OK. She was raised in the Mulhall area and graduated from the Mulhall-Orlando High School.
Shortly after her graduation she began dating a local soldier and in 1954 she married George Harlow Sr.
She devoted her life to being a mother and she raised six wonderful children. George was a truck driver and was gone most of the week, leaving Ruby to raise her six children by herself for at least 5 days a week and Ruby gladly did so. She cooked, cleaned, and even made the clothes the kids wore, although her eye for trend fashion was sometimes questioned by her kids. She was very stubborn, independent, and she loved to laugh.
When she had free time, Ruby enjoyed reading novels, watching NASCAR, Oral Roberts’, soap operas, and listening to her old time country music. She had a quiet nature about her unless she was watching OK State or Dallas Cowboys football.
Ruby was an ornery woman who loved attending social activities with her kids, and rarely missed a chance to go camping at Perry Lake or at the Moose Lodge Campground at Lake Carl Blackwell.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Harlow Sr., four siblings: Pearl Shelton, Richard Day, Lewis Day, and Meryle Barnes. She was also preceded by a daughter in law Sandy Shrum Harlow and a son in law Bruce Burleson.
Ruby is survived by six children: George (Gerri) Harlow Jr., Betty Burleson, Helen (Jim) Slavens, Richard (Lisa Ward) Harlow, Denham (Beverly) Harlow, and Beverly (Rick) Burkett. 15 Grandchildren: Judy, John, MiKayla, Preston, and Jesse Harlow, Josh, Shelby, and Lacey Ward, Deanna Lewis, Vanessa Codner, Tyler, Nicholas, and Hannah Burkett, Kenny and T.A. Kukuk. Ruby was also survived by 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Services have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Perry and a funeral service for Ruby Harlow will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at the Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel in Perry.
Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28th from 9:00am to8:00pm.
