Virgie M. Cone, 100, died Wed. March 10, 2010 at Riverview Manor in Flandreau. Virgie was born May 14, 1909 in Trent, SD to Frank and Carrie (Hewitt) Hoover. Her early education was obtained at the Trent Public School. After graduation, she attended Sioux Falls College, and in 1967 she graduated from Dakota State University with a degree in Elementary Education. On August 12, 1932, she married William A. Cone, Jr. in Flandreau. Virgie began teaching in 1952 in the Saby Country School. She later taught in the Egan Public, Colman Public, and Flandreau Public School systems. She retired from teaching in 1974. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, and the Eastern Star. She was active in the Senior Citizens' Program and a volunteer at Riverview Manor. She became a resident of Riverview Manor in November 2006.
Virgie is survived by a son, Bill (Peggy), Brookings, SD and one sister, Pauline Acronico, Santa Cruz, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, two sisters, Foy Bauman and Fay Hoover and two brothers, Kermit Hoover and Dwight Hoover.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Second Presbyterian Church with burial in the Trent Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 pm Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel.

Pauline Acronico, a longtime resident of Santa Cruz, California passed away in Capitola on February 16, 2011. Born in Sullivan County, Ohio on October 3, 1915 Pauline was the daughter of Frank Hoover and Carrie Hewitt who married March 16, 1904. The family moved to South Dakota where her father farmed and was a carpenter and where she attended school. Upon graduating from high school in Trent, South Dakota in 1933, she entered nursing training and graduated from McKinnon Hospital at Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1936 as an R.N. Her first position was at Pipestone Hospital in Minnesota.
Invited to a wedding in Santa Cruz in the 1930s, Pauline fell in love with California, relocated here in 1936 and married Norris Scriver in 1937. He pre-deceased her July 27, 1978. She went to work for Dr. Anthony F. Allegrini, a family practitioner, and was with him for 29 years until he retired. She then worked for Dr. Jones until he returned to public health work and finally for family practitioner Dr. Arthur Vedder, retiring to marry her second husband, Eugene C. Acronico, who passed March 16, 1996.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church of Santa Cruz and active as a volunteer for the church and member of their women's circle. Pauline made close and beloved friends with many people and will be remembered as a loving, cheerful care giver even in recent years as her health began to fail. A loyal friend, she was meticulous, inquisitive, supportive, kind hearted, empathetic, with a keen mind and sense of humor and a practical approach. She enjoyed music and playing cards with friends and remembered birthdays and loved receiving news from old friends and family members.
Pauline leaves her stepson Eugene C. Acronico and his wife Betty; step grandchildren Peter Acronico and his wife Tracy Scott; and Hilary Weaver and her husband Jim and their children. Pauline's sisters and brother pre-deceased her and she is survived by their children, her nieces Joyce Kruse and Juanita Dressen and Juanita's husband Fred and their children; and nephews Bill Cone and his wife Peggy; Bill Hoover and his wife Valerie; and Robert Orcutt and his wife Joann. She was also pre-deceased by her in laws by her first marriage except her sister-in-law Betty Scriver Stepanek and her husband Burt. She was also pre-deceased by her niece Donna Scriver Martin, (whose husband Jim survives her); and by nephews Skeeter Scriver and Dennis Scriver and Randy Scriver who is survived by his wife Jacquie. Surviving are her nieces Jo Ann Scriver Cope and her husband Frank; and Karen Scriver Tidwell and her husband Lou and their children; and nephew Scott Scriver. Pauline also leaves several dear, devoted and very supportive friends.
Following private interment, a service will be held at: Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel at 1050 Cayuga Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95062 at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. Joyce Z. Kruse, age 79 of Sibley, IA died Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 at Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley, IA.
Faith Lutheran memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday September 28, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Sibley, IA with Rev. Tim Nappe officiating.
Private family committal service will take place prior to the memorial service in the Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.
Joyce Zerelda Kruse was born on September 7, 1934 in Sibley, IA, the daughter of George and Foy (Hoover) Bauman. She was raised in Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School.
In July of 1952, Joyce was united in marriage to Alvin Kruse. The couple farmed south of Bigelow, milked cows and had chickens, pigs and cattle. To this union four children were born, three girls and one boy.
After their youngest child started school Joyce began working for Sibley Middle School as a secretary, retiring from there after thirty-two years.
When her children were young she was active in the music boosters and other school organizations. She also accompanied for many school contests and played at many weddings and funerals.
Joyce served as church organist for Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley from the age of fourteen and continued over 60 years. She was active in the church and served as a Sunday school teacher, a church council member, a member of the Womens Group, and various committees. The last two years
Joyce was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she continued as the church organist as well as church treasurer.
She was active in meals-on-wheels, served on the Early Childhood Iowa Empowerment Board and was a member of the Red Hats Club.
Joyce enjoyed traveling, reading, volunteering, watching the Minnesota Twins, playing a handheld Yahtzee game, cards, and doing crossword puzzles and word searches.
Joyce was a proud supporter of the Sibley Generals and was honored as "fan of the year" in 2010.
Joyce loved attending music and sporting events of her children and grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. Joyce enjoyed spending time at the Lakes with her family.
Joyce is survived by her four children, Don (wife, Teresa) Kruse of Spirit Lake, IA, Maureen (husband, Dan) Breuker of Harris, IA, DeLinda (husband, Grant) Leu of Spencer, IA and Carmen (husband, Jim) Howard of Covington, LA; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita (husband, Fred) Dreessen of Inwood, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Foy Bauman.

Mrs. Wm. Cone, a prominent lady of Trent, passed away Saturday night at her home there. She gave birth to a child a few weeks ago and was later attacked by small pox from which she was unable to rally.
She leaves a husband and 12 children to mourn her untimely death.
Deceased was an old settler in that vicinity, and was beloved by all who knew her. She was about 45 years of age at the time of death. Her demise is deeply regretted by the whole community and the sympathy of all is extended to the husband and children.
