Adamo-Cartlidge Wedding Rites
The wedding of Miss Mary Ellen Cartlidge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Cartlidge, of Harvey, and Frank Adamo, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adamo, 1306 Concart street, took place at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the rectory of Sacred Heart Catholic church. The Rev. Leo Fahey, pastor, read the double ring ceremony.
Miss Rosamond DeFatta was the bride's only attendant. Jack Bevon was best man.
The bride wore a light blue two-piece crepe creation, fashioned with a sweetheart neckline and dark blue velvet bows on the shoulders. Her short sleeves came to points on the back of her arm. Her accessories included a black hat, blue plume trim, worn with a rose veil. She wore black patent shoes and black elbow-length gloves. Her bridal bouquet was of pink sweetheart roses and orange blossoms.
Miss DeFatta wore a yellow wool jersey dress with brown accessories and an orchid corsage.
The bridegroom and best man wore white rose boutonniers.
The bride attended Petal high school and the bridegroom attended Sacred Heart Catholic academy.
Following the wedding an informal reception was held at the Adamo home. The three-tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bridal couple, was cut and served with refreshments.
The couple left on a wedding trip to the Gulf coast. On their return they will be at home with the bridegroom's parents. For traveling Mrs. Adamo wore a blue suit with a dusty rose blouse with black accessories and a corsage from her bridal bouquet.

Mary Ellen Cartlidge Adamo went to be in the arms of Our Heavenly Father the morning of February 10, 2012, after a long period of declining health at the Stone County Hospital.
Visitation and Rosary will be Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at the Moore Funeral Home in Petal. The Holy Mass to be held at Sacred Heart Cahtolic Church in Hatitesburg on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 11 a.m. Burial Service will be in Highland Cemetery, following the Mass.
Mary Ellen was born on March 20, 1927, and spent 84 glorious years with family and firiends with a continuous smile and kind word for everyone.
Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Andrew and Ellen Frances Baker Cartlidge; her husband, Frank Gennaro Adamo; a daughter, Margaret Ellen Adamo Redditt; a brother, Lt. J. P. Cartlidge, U.S.N.A.; and a sister, Nava Lou Cartlidge Stiglets.
She is survived by one son, Joseph Gennaro (Judy Bourne) Adamo; four grandchildren, Natasha (Marvin "Chip") McLeod, Sonya (Scott) Dassau; Robert Anthony Adamo and Joseph Todd (Sherrill) Adamo. Six great grandchildren, Madison McLeod, Jaxson McLeod, Gavin Dassau, Grant Dassau, Isaac Adamo, Josie Adamo; one brother, James Lynn (Earleace) Cartlidge; one sister, Opal Siebert; and numerous nieces and nephews and multitudes who lovingly called her Granny.
Mary Ellen was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, past member of Sacred Heart P.T.O., Sacred Heart Booster Club, Sponsor Catholic Youth Organization, Sponsor Sacred Heart Girls Basketball, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Forrest County Girl Scout Leaders Association, Leader of Girl Scout Troop #7, from Brownies to Senior Scouts, they were the first troop in Mississippi to earn the Marion Award which was presented to them by Most Reverend Bishop R. O. Gerow, Bishop of Natchez. Miss Mary Ellen received the National Council of Catholic Youth (PRO DEO ET JUVENTUTI) award, also presented by Bishop Gerow.
Due to illness over the past few years, she has been inactive in the work she loved as a Notary and bail bondsman. She served her community as a Notary for over forty years. She was a licensed bail bondsman for over 20 years providing bail bonds for thousands of cases for individuals in the Mississippi Courts where she became known to everyone simply as Granny Adamo.
Granny always smiling and thinking of others, requested that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Sacred Hearst Building Fund, the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Petal War Memorial Fund.
Serving as Pallbearers are Johnny Adamo, Andy Cartlidge, Scott Dassau, Chip McLeod, Craig Stiglets and Rick Monday.

Funeral Rites Tuesday For Mrs. Cartlidge
Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Baker Cartlidge, 67, of Carterville will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Hulett Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery in the Sunrise Community.
Mrs. Cartlidge took her own life Sunday morning at her home, shooting herself with a .410 shotgun while lying fully dressed on her bed.
Her husband, Joseph A. Cartlidge, 72, told Deputy Sheriff W. V. Oubre, that he went to collect the eggs in the henhouse at about 8 o'clock at the time his wife was preparing his breakfast. When he heard the report of the gun, he rushed into the house and found Mrs. Cartlidge dead. Mrs. Cartlidge had been despondent for some time.
She is survived by her husband, a son, James L. Cartlidge, city; three daughters, Mrs. John A. Stiglets Jr. and Mrs. Frank G. Adamo Jr. both of Hattiesburg; Mrs. George F. Seibert, Stockton, Calif; two brothers, Leon Baker of Ocean Springs and White Baker of Mississippi City; three sisters; Mrs. Margaret Davis and Mrs. J. L. Langston, both of Hattiesburg; Mrs. Frank Strachon, Mobile; and six grandchildren.
