Biography

Sherman B. Harshman was born on 13 January 1865 in Trumbull Co., OH,

This individual is listed in an online genealogy, 10-25-14_AutoBackup_2014-10-04_2014-10-25 prepared by rancon5, as having been born in Ohio 13 JAN 1865, son of Thomas A. and Phoebe (Hudson) Harshman of Trumbull County, Ohio, who were married there on 12 NOV 1863. On the 1870 census, he is found living at Lordstown in the household of Thomas' parents, Andrew and Elizabeth (Brooks) Harshman, along with uncles Benedict and Norris A. Harshman. Thomas and Phoebe Harshman were also listed in 1870 at Lordstown, farming, with children Flora, 4, and Ida, 5 months. They had lost a daughter Eva Olive, born 19 MAY 1867 and died 6 FEB 1870, buried at Soaptown Cemetery, Findagrave.com #113921554 along with her mother, Phoebe. Phoebe died 21 NOV 1872, apparently soon after giving birth to a son Thomas A., Jr., (APR 1872 - AUG 1872). Thomas Harshman, Sr., remarried to Margaret Flick (1841 - 1880) in 1877, and remarried again to Ellen P. Hatch 29 DEC 1884. The name of Thomas' deceased daughter, Eva Olive Harshman, was the name that Sherman and Leetta gave to their daughter born in 1890. Although no direct evidence of Sherman's parents has been found, this fact gives excellent credence, in my opinion, to the identification of Sherman's parents as Thomas Albert and Phoebe (Hudson) Harshman. DLB 2021.1

He married Leetta Summers, daughter of Jacob W. Summers and Jenetta Shroyer, on 27 April 1890 in Anderson, Madison Co., IN. Sherman B. Harshman died on 27 May 1891 in Muncie, Delaware Co., IN.
