She remembered riding the train that carried her Grandfather's casket from Webster Groves where they lived with their daughter Alice and her family. She said that her Grandparents died in their home.
She was buried in April 1915 in Troy City Cemetery, Troy, Lincoln Co., MO, Findagrave #160054791.

Dr. A.W. Sydnor was considered a Confederate sympathizer. After the Civil War, he was ostracized as a traitor. As a consequence, he lost all of his property and died a poor man in the home of his daughter Alice White in what is now Webster Groves, MO. His daughter also cared for her Mother Dulcinia, her husband's parents, an aunt, and her own 12 children. The letter attached is from his grand daughter Catherine "Sydnor" White Gordon written to her 1st cousin 1x removed Robert Sydnor in March of 1975. She said that her Grandparents died in their home and they could not afford tombstones for their graves. She said they rode with Grandpa's body on the train to Troy, MO when she was 8. They had 6 children but only 3 survived to adulthood. Lottie Arcelia was born in Jan of 1871 and died June 05, 1871 in Wentzville. I do not know where she is buried. The other 2 were born premature and did not survive.

Sydnor, John J. Jack passed away peacefully, Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at the age of 91. Loyal and loving husband of Jean Marie Sydnor (nee Rogers) for 66 years; dear father of Thomas (Kimberly) and the late Kurt Sydnor; grandfather of Tayler and Michael Sydnor and Kristin (Joe) Sidlo. Jack served as an Electrician on the U.S.S. Cowpens in the Pacific in WWII; graduated from the University of Missouri at Rolla, MO in 1950 (BSEE). As a registered professional engineer, he established St. Louis Elevator Company in December of 1966, and retired in 1987. He loved piloting his plane, golf and traveling extensively. Services: Visitation at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church, Monday, March 20, 9 am until funeral mass at 10 am. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
Published in St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Mar. 16, 2017.
