Ernestine entered her everlasting life to be with her Lord and Savior on August 16, 2015 and to join her husband, Curvin Smith, mother Jane N. Shoop, father, Clarence L. Shoop, her three brothers, William Shoop, Roger Shoop and twin brother Eugene Shoop.
She is survived by four daughters; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great, great grandson.
Ernestine was born in Hagerstown, had lived in Downsville, MD before moving back to Hagerstown. She was of the Brethren faith.

The descendants of John Butterbaugh who came to Cherry Grove township from Franklin County, Pa., in 1843, held their first reunion at Point Rock, Mr. Carroll on Sunday, Aug. 18, 1929. This reunion was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Forest Hawk and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Truman.
W. H. Puterbaugh of Lanark gave and address of welcome, A. B. Puterbaugh of Milledgeville then took charge of a short business meeting. It was decided to have an annual reunion of the descendants of John Butterbaugh, who were Henry B. Puterbaugh, Jacob Butterbaugh, David Puterbaugh, Samuel Butterbaugh, Martin Butterbaugh, Elizabeth (Betsy) Sheller and Mary Elliot. The meeting for next year is to be held at Point Rock Park at Mt. Carroll on the third Sunday in June. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, A. B. Puterbaugh of Milledgeville; Vice President, Harry Butterbaugh, Lanark; Sec-Treas., Mrs. Catherine Lutz, Lanark. The officers appointed the following committees: Membership - Roy Butterbauugh, Lanark, Sadie Puterbaugh, Lanark, Eva Royer, Lanark. He was an active member in the Reformed Church and to it as well as to his neighborhood his death is a great loss. He was over 60 years of age and leaves a widow and family of children.

KATHRYN REID BOWMAN, 80, of Fahrney Keedy Memorial Home and formerly of Bridgewater, Va., died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Fahrney Keedy. Born April 21, 1922, near Cearfoss, she was the daughter of the late Anna Rowland and J. Richard Reid.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Alaric Bowman Jr. They were married June 25, 1942.
She was a graduate of Clear Spring High School and Bridgewater (Va.) College. In 1966, she pursued a degree in reading instruction at Madison College. She taught special education at the Special Education Center at North Street School. She also was the reading specialist at Bridgewater Elementary for 20 years and part-time reading instructor at Bridgewater College. She was a member of the board of directors of Skyline Literacy Coalition and past president of Shenandoah Valley Reading Council. She helped initiate the Shenandoah Valley Reading Council's "Books for Babies" program. In 1994, she won the Virginia State Reading Association Literacy Award. She also volunteered as a tutor for the Adult Literacy Program. She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren and Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, where she was co-chair of the library.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Rood of Charlottesville, Va.; two sons, Richard Bowman and Daniel Bowman, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Paul Reid of Hagerstown and Dr. Rowland Reid of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Grossnickle.
Services were held at Hagerstown Church of the Brethren; burial was at the convenience of the family in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
