MAITLAND - Robin Cannon Candeto died May 31, 2011, in her home of a rare, untreatable brain disease.
A memorial service was June 4 at St. Andrews Church in Sanford. Private interment at DeLand Memorial Gardens preceded the service.
Born in 1957 in Tallahassee, Mrs. Candeto is survived by her parents, Robert and Sherry Cannon of Tallahassee; her sister, Angela Cannon Hirte of Kansas City, Mo.; her four children, Caroline Candeto Newkirk, John Cannon Candeto, Steven Lewis Candeto II and Sarah Lucille Candeto; and one granddaughter, Lydia Newkirk.
Robin was a beloved early-childhood administrator at The Geneva School, whose faith in Christ and gentle wisdom inspired many.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, whose generous hospitality and selflessness will be remembered well by those who knew her.

She had worked for United Airlines for 10 years. She then worked in accounting for Waterfield Mortgage Co. for 25 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville.
She was born Aug. 10, 1938, in Kendallville to Conrad Wendall and Catharine (Canode) Platner. On Oct. 19, 1973, in Charleston, W.Va., she married James T. Kerns. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 2002.
Surviving are two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Kerns and Simon Mares of London, and Virginia Kerns and Ronald Hellet of Utah; two stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; a brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Barbara Platner of Arkansas; and a sister and brother-in-law, Anne Platner Binder and James Binder of Palm Springs, California.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church, 201 S. State St., with the Rev. Jordan Truman and the Rev. Stanley Kessler officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Funeral services for Ollie Norman Smith, 68 years of age, will be held Friday, Jan. 5, at 10:30 a.m. from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. M. Vaughn in charge assisted by the Rev. V. A. Jones. Burial will be at Shiloh. Mr. Smith, a well known farmer of the Red Fern section and native of Green County, died at his home here Jan. 1. He was the son of the late John H. and Phoebe Smith. He was married to Miss Maggie Gilmore in 1900 and to this union six children were born. Surviving are: John Irvin, Charlotte, N.C.; Ira Smith, city; Mrs. Theo. Luffman and Mrs. Shelby Murrah, both of Louisville; and Mrs. Eural Clark, Anchorage. He leaves a brother, Truman Smith, of Creek Ridge, Colo., and a sister, Mrs. W. C. Payne, city, and thirteen grandchildren. Mr. Smith professed faith in 1903 and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he remained a member and served the church as Elder for several years.
