Neal Douglas Keairns
August 23, 1949 ~ July 25, 2021
Neal D. Keairns, 71 of Sloan, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 25, 2021 at a Sioux City hospital.
Funeral Services will be held 11 am Thursday, July 29 at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave, and a visitation will be from 9am until service time. A luncheon will be served at the Sioux City Elks Lodge at 12noon. He will be interred at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Neal was born on August 23, 1949 in Sioux City, the son of Kenneth "Pearl" and Nellie Mae (Watterson) Keairns.
Neal graduated from Riverside High School in 1969. On March 4, 1972 Neal was united in marriage to Jeanette Windle. They had two daughters together. They were also active foster parents and provided a loving home to more than 14 children.
Neal sold trucks and trailers in the area for over 40 years. He also owned and operated Sergeant Bluff Lanes for 10 years during the 1990's and early 2000's. Currently Neal was working for his daughter, Stephanie, as a part-time maintenance supervisor. He helped take care of maintenance at Pioneer Valley Living and Rehabilitation in Sergeant Bluff, Goldenrod Manor Care Center in Clarinda and Pocahontas Manor Care Center in Pocahontas. He was a past Elks member and Moose Lodge Member. Neal was very active in the community and touched many lives.
Neal enjoyed being his own mechanic working on vehicles, golfing, and bowling. He also enjoyed dirt track racing and during his racing days drove car #80.
Neal is survived by his wife Jeanette of Sloan, daughters Stephanie (Chris) Amick of Bronson, Jill (Dirk) Kirk of Sloan, grandchildren Nellie Amick, Abby Amick, Sami Kirk and Willy Kirk, his brothers Bob (Donna) Keairns, Ken (Nancy) Keairns, Bill (Lori) Keairns, Scott (Krista) Keairns and Jim (Kathy) Keairns, sisters Diane Butler, Kenna Mae Owens, Sue (Terry) Hubert and Dorothy Dill. He also had many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Donnie, Harry and Steve Kearins; and 2 sisters: Barbara Smith and Carol Lane; and 5 brothers in law: Jack Smith, Jim Lane, Roy Dill, Wayne Owens, and Bill Butler.
