Family: Elizabeth Low (b. 11 August 1904, d. February 1986)

DaughterIrene Virginia Reardon+ (b. 2 July 1921, d. 25 October 2004)

Biography

John Reardon was born about 1899 in New York. He married Elizabeth Low on 14 April 1920 in Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY,

license No. 5685, issuance reported in the 16 APR 1920 edition of the Times Union, Brooklyn, New York, p.10 (Newspapers.com). John Reardon was listed as 21, Elizabeth Low as 16. This marriage was very short-lived -- it may well have broken up before Irene's birth. Elizabeth was remarried to John Hagenmayer with two additional children by 1 JUN 1925 when the New York state census was taken. DLB 2022.

Note: There are multiple possibllities for the correct identification of this John Reardon. A likely candidate is John Reardon, born 21 AUG 1899 at Brooklyn (Kings Co.), birth certificate No. 13432. A John Joseph Reardon was born 23 AUG 1899 in New York (birth record not found) and lived at White Plains, who served in WW I and married Mary Ward about 1922. He died of pneumonia in 1931 at Mamaroneck. It is possible this was the same person as the husband of Elizabeth Low. At least one online genealogy shows her husband as John P. Reardon, born 1898 at Portmouth, New Hampshire, but that John Reardon died in 1906. DLB 2022.

Georgeann Owen married Robert Hundley Maloney on 1 October 1965 in Multnomah Co., OR. She died on 8 May 2017

Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Born in her family's country home near Searcy, Ark., to Wm. Carl Owen and Norma Benedict Owen, the fourth and youngest child. Raised in Oklahoma, she moved to the Portland area in 1947.

Having never attended the same school for more than one year, she stayed in Oregon when her parents returned to Oklahoma. She attended Gresham H.S. where she met her lifelong friends, the 'Gresham Girls' and graduated in 1951.

She married Richard 'Dick' Miller in 1956 and had one daughter, Sharon. Dick died in 1961. Jo married Robert 'Bob' Maloney in 1965. She is survived by her husband; daughter; and two step children.

She worked as secretary to the president of Portland Gas and Coke Co. (becoming Northwest Natural Gas Co.), and was a member of Executive Secretaries, Inc. After taking a few years off, she worked as the Alaska Travel Consultant for a travel agency; an international racing team; and co-owned an arts and crafts store in Lake Oswego.

Jo has been a member of Cascade Sports Car Club for 60 years. In 1959 she served as secretary of the International Conference of Northwest Sports Car Club (now ICSCC), and her home was headquarters. In 1961 she was active in the formation of what is now Portland International Raceway, originally planned as a much needed sports car road racing facility in the region. She was very proud of the fact that PIR is still enjoyed by so many to this day. She raced in the first Rose Cup Powder Puff race there. In 1969, she was the first and only woman race chairman of the annual Rose Cup Race. She was the woman in charge of 600 workers and 250 entrants. In 1968, she led a group of racing enthusiasts on a European tour that included the Porsche and Mercedes factories and test tracks and the Grand Prix of Monaco.

She would always make herself available to any relatives or friends who needed help. She was an advocate and caregiver to many people. She made friends everywhere she went and was always interested in their lives. She loved to camp, fish, travel, organize parties and watch sports. She was a proud Democrat.

Jo's smile, fun spirit and loving ways would light up any room she entered. She will be greatly missed.

Robert Hundley Maloney

M, #148950, b. 10 June 1930, d. 1 September 2018

Biography

Robert Hundley Maloney was born on 10 June 1930 in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR; son of Hundley Ray and Helen M. (Butcher) Maloney. He married Georgeann Owen on 1 October 1965 in Multnomah Co., OR. He died on 1 September 2018

Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Bob was born in Portland to Ray Hundley Maloney and Helen Butcher Maloney, an Oregon pioneering family. He grew up in the Montavilla neighborhood, attending Vestal Grade School and graduating from Washington High School in 1948, where he made many lifelong friends. Bob worked through high school and after as a driver for Meier and Frank and the Frank family. He was working for Frank Chevrolet when he enlisted in the Marines. He served in Korea in 1952 & 53 attaining the rank of Sgt. His experiences in Korea are documented in an oral history project at Wellesley College.

Bob attended Vanport College and Portland State University. He worked for Mayflower Farms (now Darigold) until his retirement. In 1956 he married Lois Darrow and had two children, Rob and Shannon McCabe. In 1965 he met and soon married Georgeann "Jo" Miller. He also instantly became Jo's daughter, Sharon's awesome 'daddy'. They were married for 52 years until her passing in May, 2017.

Able to drive and fix anything with wheels (except maybe an unfortunate unicycle incident) he started racing sports cars throughout the Northwest and Canada. He was a member of TCO and CSCC until his death. Unable to pursue his artistic talents in college so as to support the family, he instead was able to apply these gifts to all he did. Whether that was welding, brick work, construction, landscaping or just carving a pumpkin, each project included a little artistic flair.

Camping and fishing since a toddler, he instilled upon us, not only these skills but a great love and respect for the natural environment, especially in Oregon, with the Metolius River being a favorite. Nelscott (now part of Lincoln City) having been incorporated by his uncle, Charles Nelson, was also a place where many days and weeks were happily spent, both in his youth and adulthood.

The house was forever full of animals. Cats, dogs, hamsters, fish and even a pet rat that rode around on his shoulder! The yard was the same, pet squirrels, all types of birds, from hummingbirds to pheasants, raccoons, deer and one very old garden snake. Like the Pied Piper, the neighborhood kids were constantly following him around the yard, or peeking into the garage wondering what he was up to and could they 'play' with him.

Bob was a student of history, a lover of big band music and jazz. He was a Veteran, Teamster and Democrat. A wonderful friend, husband and the very best dad, he will be sorely missed. He has been interred in Willamette National Cemetery. At his request, there will be no service.
