Family and friends mourn the passing of John Deans. A graduate of PRATT and Columbia Universities, he was a professor emeritus at City University of New York and taught and practiced architecture for over 45 years. We will always remember him for his independent spirit, sharp with, intelligence, love of the outdoors and as an admirer of the arts.
He is survived by his dear friend, Doris; two daughters, Alison and Jennifer; his son-in-saw, Ken and grandchildren, Isabelle and Gavin.

SHIPPENSBURG Elsie M. Riggs, 76, of 8604 Pineville Road, died Saturday at home.
She was employed by the former Shirtcraft Co. and had been a waitress for various restaurants in the Shippensburg area. She was a member of the Greenvillage Church of God.
She was the widow of Paul L. Riggs. Surviving are three sisters, Ida Jane Koontz of Gettysburg, Hazel Abremski of Shippensburg and Evelyn Hersh of Codorus; two brothers, Huber Smith Jr. of Orrtanna and Glenn Smith of Aspers; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Edwin A. Kann, 77, of 920-D Menno Village and formerly of 1138 Oaklawn Drive, Culpeper, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1993, in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born April 18, 1915, in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Clayton A. and Mary G. Fogelsanger Kann.
A member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he served on the board of elders, he also was a member of Good Samaritan Lodge 336 F & AM, Gettysburg. He served on the board of directors of Culpeper Memorial Hospital and was past president of Culpeper Rotary Club and Culpeper Chamber of Commerce.
In 1939, Mr. Kann organized the rural areas of Franklin and Cumberland counties of Pennsylvania into a rural electric cooperative district, predecessor of the Adams Electric Cooperative.
From 1940 to 1942, he served as coordinator and district manager of Adams Electric Cooperative, and from 1942 to 1960 was a member and secretary of its board of directors in Gettysburg.
During this period, he completed all of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association director institutes and earned his certificate. He also completed the NRECA management institutes and special workshops for certification.
In 1960, he became member and manager of the public services for Adams Electric Cooperative. In August 1967 he became general manager of Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative, Culpeper. He served as general manager until January 1980 with the merger of Northern Piedmont and Virginia Electric Cooperatives, which became Rappahannock Electric Cooperative.
After his retirement he formed his own management consulting business, doing work for NRECA and REA until January 1983, when he assumed responsibilities of executive director of Culpeper Chamber of Commerce.
From 1942 to 1960, Mr. Kann was involved in dairy farming in Franklin County.
Surviving are his wife, E. Marie Riggs Kann, whom he married Oct. 13. 1936, in Shippensburg; two daughters, Marjorie M. (Mrs. Donald H.) Fogelsanger of Chambersburg and Barbara L. (Mrs. Lawrence M.) Beard of Leesburg, Va.; two sons, Carroll E. of Avon, Conn., and Dale E. of Carmel, Ind.; eight grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred (Mrs. John) Immel of Carlisle.
He was buried in January 1993 in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Cumberland Co., PA, Findagrave #52465590.

Marjorie M. Fogelsanger, 70, of 7 Acorn Circle, Chambersburg, Pa., peacefully transitioned into eternal life Sunday morning, November 16, 2008 in her home.
Born December 14, 1937 in Southhampton Township, she was a daughter of the late Edwin A. and Marie Riggs Kann. A graduate of the Shippensburg High School, she attended the former Shippensburg State Teacher's College and received a degree in education from James Madison University. She taught school in Harrisonburg, Virginia prior to moving to Chambersburg where she was employed as a Reading Specialist with the Chambersburg Area School District, retiring in 1999. In addition to teaching, she inspired students by working with them as a private tutor.
Margie was an active member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren where she had served in many Christian Education capacities. She sang with the church choir, was a member of the bell choir, and was active with the Searchers Sunday school class. At one time she served on the Southern District Board of the Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed reading, cross-stitch, sewing, gardening and cooking. She was awarded the title of Pennsylvania State Peach Queen in 1955.
A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her loving husband, Rev. Donald H. Fogelsanger, whom she married August 17, 1957; three daughters, Debra J. Shilling and husband Stan of Chambersburg, Cheryl A. Egan and her significant other, Gregg Hamilton of Chambersburg, and Kimberly K. Crowley and husband James of Trappe, Maryland; six grandchildren, Bradley C. & Jonathan M. Shilling, Simon M. Egan, Christina M., Samantha E. and Amy E. Crowley; two brothers; Carroll Kann and wife Joyce of Hartford, Connecticut and Dale Kann and wife Rosie of Indianapolis, Indiana; as well as a sister, Barbara Beard and husband Lawrence of Chambersburg.
She was buried in November 2008 in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Cumberland Co., PA, Findagrave #31499577.
