MRS. EVELYN K. CORPENING
Mrs. Evelyn Kitzmiller Corpening, 74, 400 N. Boone St., died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Corpening was a Washington County native and had formerly lived in Jonesborough. She had lived in Johnson City most of her life. Mrs. Corpening was a daughter of the late Richard H. And Bess Lynette France Kitzmiller.
She was a retired employee of the Johnson City School System.
Mrs. Corpening was a graduate of Jonesborough High School and attended Milligan College.
She was a former president of Johnson City Little League Baseball.
Mrs. Corpening was a former member of the Locust Street Church of Christ and a member of First Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by one brother.
Survivors include her husband, William S. Corpening; two sons, Richard Corpening and Darrell Corpening, both of Johnson City; and four grandchildren.

William Corpening
William S. Corpening, 88, Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Johnson City, he was the son of the late William Sigmon and Ella Price Corpening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Kitzmiller Corpening.
Mr. Corpening served his country in the United States Army in the 104th infantry division in Europe during WWII. He graduated from Science Hill High School. He attended Niagara University and East Tennessee State University and was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking in New York.
Mr. Corpening was a retired Senior Vice President of Hamilton Bank, which later became SunTrust Bank, Vice President of the Johnson City Jr. and Sr. Babe Ruth, past member of Pine Oaks Golf Board, a charter member of the North Johnson City Optimist Club and a member of the Kiwanis noon club for forty years. He was an avid bowler, golfer and UT Vols fan.
He was an Elder, Treasurer, and Sunday School teacher at Locust Street Church of Christ. Mr. Corpening later attended First Christian Church of Johnson City, where he was a member of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his sons: William Darrell Corpening and wife, Karen, Richard Corpening and wife, Debbie, all of Jonesborough; grandchildren: Kim Dooley and husband, Jeramiah, Charlotte, NC, Kelly Mustain and husband, Matt, Valdosta, GA, Lindsay Corpening, Burbank, CA, Brandon Corpening, Atlanta, GA; great-grandchildren: Ryan and Gretchen Dooley and William Mustain.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to the 2500 staff at the Medical Center and to the entire staff at Appalachian Christian Village.
A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Corpening will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, January 27, 2012, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Dr. Tim Wallingford, Minister, and Mr. Steve Hill, Minster, officiating.
The family will greet friends in the funeral home chapel Friday from 12:00 PM until the service hour.
A Committal and Interment service will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park with full Military Honors provided by Boone Dam VFW Post #4933. Active Pallbearers will be Richard Corpening, Darrell Corpening, Jeramiah Dooley, Stephen Garrison, Brandon Corpening, Thomas Garrison, Alex Garrison and John Isaacs. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Cass at First Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends make a donation in memory of Mr. Corpening to the Mr. and Mrs. Sunday School Class of First Christian Church (200 Mountcastle Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601).

FALL BRANCH -- Walter Ryan, 73, of the Sulphur Springs Community, Jonesboro, Route 7, died at his residence 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, following a short illness.
The son of the late Thomas and Mollie Fulkerson Ryan, he was born and reared in Washington County. He was a retired carpenter and had been a farmer for the past four years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Bolton Ryan; five sons, Jesse Ryan, Kingsport, William P. Ryan, Dewey E. Ryan, and John W. Ryan, Jr., all of Jonesboro, John T. Ryan, Madisonville, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Buckingham of Jonesboro and Miss Ethel Ryan of Jonesboro; a brother, J. L. Ryan of Fordtown, Tenn.; a sister, Miss Alice Ryan of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Bethany Baptist Church. Rev. Lloyd Light and Rev. George C. Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in the Fordtown Baptist Cemetery.
