Mrs. Nellie Powell Dies at St. Mary's

Nellie Fullington Craig, youngest daughter of Francis M. and Matilda Fullington Craig, was born April

20, 1870, at High Hill, Missouri, and passed away at St. Mary's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, February

28, 1951.

On February 16, 1887, she was united in marriage to John Price Powell, and they made their home in

New Florence from that time on.

To this union seven children were born: Blanche Scholtan of St. Louis; Earl who preceded his mother

in death in 1934; Nellie Sanker, who passed away in 1926; John P. of St. Louis; Elsie Saak of Montgomery

City; and Harry and Edna, of the home.

Her husband passed away March 26, 1913.

In early married life she united with the Presbyterian Church of New Florence and ever lived a

Christian life.

She was a Past Matron of the Eastern Star, taking an active part in the work as long as her health

permitted. At the time of her death she was a member of Montgomery Chapter No. 388.

She was very fond of Music and derived much pleasure from it.

She always had a fond place in her heart for High Hill her girlhood home, and requested that Brother

Harold Nebel, the son of an old schoolmate, conduct her services.

Besides her devoted children she leaves four grand-children - Charles Sanker of Pacific, Missouri;

Helen Duckworth, of St. Louis; Catherine Scholten, of St. Louis; Richard Saak, of Montgomery City, and

many other relatives and friends who mourn her departure.

The funeral was held on Friday March 2, 1951. 2 p.m. from Hopkins Mortuary conducted by Bro.

Harold Nebel of High Hill, followed by Eastern Star Service. Mrs. Helen Rogers - Worthy Matron and

Mrs. Paul Thomas - Chaplain, taking part. Burial followed at New Florence Cemetery.



She was buried in March 1951 in New Florence Cemetery, New Florence, Montgomery Co., MO.

Ed Gruber Dies In Hospital

Edward Everett Gruber, son of the late John Gruber and Amanda Jane Gruber, was born November

18, 1870 at Gore, Warren Co., Missouri, and passed away at the Audrain Hospital, Mexico, Missouri, on

March 14, 1952, at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 26 days.

On December 25, 1893, he was united in marriage to Alice Powell. To this union four children were

born: three sons and one daughter, Amanda Jane who died July 3, 1907, at the age of four years. He is

survived by his wife; three sons: Johnny A. of St. Louis; Elijah of Montgomery City; and Bryan J. of

Danville; two brothers: Lee of Montgomery City, and Gus of Richhill; seventeen grandchildren and ten

great-grandchildren.

By occupation, Edward Gruber was a farmer. In 1881, the Gruber family moved from Loutre Island

to a farm near Danville. He lived in this vicinity until 1944 when he moved to Montgomery City. It was

here that he spent his last years.

Edward Everett Gruber united with the Methodist faith at the Loutre Island Church when he was but

a youth. As long as his health permitted he attended regularly the services at Danville Methodist Church.

In 1943, he and his wife celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. This was a happy occasion for

their host of relatives and friends. He was devoted to his family and a loyal friend. He took an active

interest in community affairs. His relatives and friends will miss him.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. O. Hallam at Danville Methodist Church on Sunday,

March 16, 1952, at 2:00 p.m., and interment was in the New Florence Cemetery.



He was buried in March 1952 in New Florence Cemetery, New Florence, Montgomery Co., MO.
