Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):
Carrol B. Deem, "Mr. 7-UP," passed away peacefully on June 15, 2009, of natural causes. He was 99.
He was born in Columbus, Kansas, on February 13, 1910, to George and Maggie Deem. He moved to San Diego County in the late 1920's with his family. It was in San Diego that Carrol and his older brother, Harry, started the Star Beverage Company which subsequently became the Seven-Up Bottling Company. Carrol was owner of the San Diego plant for almost 40 years, until his retirement in 1968. Carrol spent much of his early life yachting, and was a longtime member of the San Diego Yacht Club, Marlin Club, and the Catalina Yacht Club in Avalon. He spent winter months at his home in the Anza Borrego Desert, and was a member of the De Anza Country Club. He also spent many summers on the shore of Lake Pend Orielle in Idaho's wooded panhandle.
Carrol Deem is preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Deem; a daughter, Louise Davis Connor.
He is survived by his two daughters, Michele Voss (Dallas) of Jamul, California, and Anne Dressell (Rick) of Hailey, Idaho; several grandchildren and great-grand-children. A small, intimate family gathering will be held to celebrate Carrol's long, well-lived life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of choice.
