M, #88763, b. 1 March 1908, d. 30 June 1969
Parents
Biography
Louis Pence DeVault began military service in 1931 U.S. Army, listed as a private on U.S. Army Passenger List, A.S.N. 6356816, 13 Eng. PS, on the ship St. Mihiel, departing Ft. Slocum, New York on 18 MAR 1931.
Note:
Louis suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and was hospitalized 1942-1943 and again from 1943-1969 at Madison State Hospital, Indiana.
Per Tracy Devault, Ellen Hoyt wrote:
Louis was married to Bertha Lou Ella Plowman (1906-1991) born and died in North Carolina and they had a son Bobby Louis DeVault (7-7-1928-8-12-1993). He was married to Mary Louise Covington (1926-1985) and so far one daughter Valerie "Rene" DeVault (7- 4-1960-8-11-1979). She was murdered in Florida by Joseph Alan Marter who hung himself in his cell in 1992. I have been trying to find obituaries for Bobby Louis, Mary Louise and Valerie and Bertha but with no luck.
Also the reason he was donated to science is because his sister Elizabeth and some of the other siblings said they couldn't bury him due to financial reasons. In actuality there was a grave for him next to his parents in Acton. In 1920 William and Stella purchased 6 plots when William David died. Two are unused and since I'm a descendant they are now in my name. Also since he was in the military he could of had those benefits but they refused. Louis' wife Bertha remarried in 1952 to a Turner Lee Gregory. Elizabeth didn't even send him to Madison with his own clothing. He was there from 1942-1943 and 1943-1968 and 1968-1969. In early 1968 he was released to the care of Minnie Bear who ran the Bear family care home in Dupont Indiana. It was a farm which is a setting that he wanted to be in. He worked on the farm earning some money and was very happy and had no issues while living there. Only reason he was sent back to Madison was due to his cancer and his health failing fast. Minnie actually visited him after she had to send him back to the hospital.
