ROYAL CENTER--Services for Florence E. Capes, 95, formerly of Roann, Rt. 1, North Manchester, and Royal Center, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church, Laketon.

She died at 12:32 a.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in Chase Center, Logansport.

Born July 18, 1905, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of Bertram and Jeanette Shepard Dorton. She was married Feb. 14, 1927, in Goodland, to Lloyd E. Capes, who died April 14, 1985.

A homemaker, she was the oldest member of the United Methodist Chruch in Laketon. She also was a member of the ORder of Eastern Star #375, Royal Center, and was a Past Worthy Matron of the former Laurel Chapter of OES in Roann. She had been a member of the OES for more than 50 years, and was a former member of the Laketon Extension Homemakers.

Active in church, she liked to crochet and make crafts and was a fantastic grandmother.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Lewis Jenkins, Royal Center, and Marjorie and Robert Eib, Tucson, Ariz.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sonya Capes, Galena, Mo.; one brother, Norman Dorton, Michigan City; and one daughter-in-law, Myra Capes-Laubenstein, Huntington; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

One son and one brother preceded in death.

Pastor Robert Keck will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Laketon Cemtery, Laketon.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel, where there will be an Order of Eastern Star memorial service at 7:30 p.m. and one hour before services in the church Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Society and Heart Fund.

JERRY LEE CAPES, son of Lloyd E. and Florenece E. (Dorton) Capes, was born in Wabash County, Indiana, and passed away in Springfield, Missouri.

Jerry served his country in Vietnam from 1966-1968 and drove a truck for Transport America for most of his life. He was a member of the Masonic Gardener Lodge #65 for over 35 years and enjoyed his work with the V.F.W. and American Legion. His hobbies included fishing, barbecuing, driving his golf cart, Thursday night poker with the guys and spoiling his grandchildren.

He was united in marriage on July 2, 1995 with Sonja Saunders and was a special and loving father to the 10 children they share, all surviving.

Survivors include his wife, Sonja; seven daughters, Shelly Ann Steiner, Janelle Coonce, Julie Jesseph and her husband John, Laura June Lyons and her husband Steve, Jean Shildmyer and her husband Joe, Leslie Jill Hogue and her husband John and Aprille Hutsinpiller and her husband Mike; three sons, Jerry Bradley Capes, Jeffrey Allen Capes and Michael Gerstorff; one sister, Doris Jenkins and her husband Lewis; thirty-one grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.



He was buried in 2006 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Springfield, Springfield, Greene Co., MO, Findagrave #13523236.

EIB, Marjorie Lois (Capes, Hall), of Tucson, AZ, age 71, journeyed to Heaven on Easter morning, March 27, 2005. Marjorie passed away after a long and hard fought battle with heart disease and diabetes. She gave it her all as she had with everything in life. She is loved deeply by all and will be missed, but is now in a better place.

Richard L. Weaver, 52

BUFFALO – Richard “Rick” L. Weaver, 52, of Buffalo, died at 6:08 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in Home Hospital.

He was born Jan. 27, 1948, in Wabash County, and was a 1967 Pioneer High School graduate. Since August 1983, he had been the owner of Rick’s Market.

On Jan. 21, 1973, he married Sadonna S. Taylor in Royal Center, and she survives.

Mr. Weaver was a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Tutuila and USS America during the Vietnam War. He was a member and Past Master of Royal Center Masonic Lodge 585, which he played a role in getting built. He also was a member of Royal Center Order of Eastern Star Chapter 375, AMVETS Post 91 and the Pulaski-White County Rural Telephone Corp. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, beagles and Indiana University basketball.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Jill Shannon (husband: Cary) and Kathryn Weaver, both of Buffalo; his parents, Lewis and Doris Jenkins of Royal Center; and a sister, Susie Gray of Pensacola, Fla.
