VALPARAISO, IN—James C. McGill, 93, of Valparaiso, IN was born in Chicago, IL on May 8, 1928 and passed away on March 9, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years, Johanna (Bauer) McGill; and his three children: Margaret Paris, Catherine (Guy) Gangi and Charlie (Kelly) McGill. He has 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Jim attended Culver Military summer school and graduated from Valparaiso University. He served in the US army from 1951-1953. Jim retired in 1993 as Chairman Emeritus at McGill Mfg. Co. where he had worked for over 30 years. He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a former ILS board member. He was very active his entire adult life in Valparaiso community, civic, and professional organizations. Jim served on Porter County YMCA board, was a member of Valparaiso Rotary Club, Valpo Chamber of Commerce, Porter Co. United Fund, and Elks Lodge 500. He served on VU board of directors (12 years), was an Indiana State Chamber director, First National Bank director, member of Electrical Manufacturers Club, and director of National Association of Manufacturers. Jim was a consummate croquet player. He enjoyed playing in the summers at his home in Wequetonsing, MI and in the winters at Gasparilla Inn and Club in Boca Grande, FL. He loved the outdoors and sports, was an avid tennis and golf player. Everyone who has met Jim has a story. He was a fun loving, kind and generous man who will forever be in our fondest memories.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 14, 2022, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 N. Monticello Park Dr., Valparaiso. Funeral Services will be Monday, at 1:00 PM at the church, Rev. Andrew Fields officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church. BARTHOLOMEW FUNERAL HOME in charge of arrangements.

MRS. MATTIE DAVIS DIES IN FT. DODGE, SERVICES TUESDAY
Mrs. Mattie Davis, 59, died at her home in Fort Dodge last Friday following a long illness. She was a longtime resident of Humboldt having moved to Fort Dodge about six years ago.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at St. Olaf Lutheran church in Fort Dodge with Rev. E. S. Ede officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn cemetery in Fort Dodge, The Lindhart Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Surviving Mrs. Davis are three sons, Wayne of Eagle Grove, Valley of Belmond and Richard of Humboldt; three daughters, Mrs. Fae Werling of Badger, Mrs. Virginia Leist of Rowan and Mrs. Gladys Prehm of Fort Dodge; a sister, Mrs. Hans Anderson of Felton, Minn.; a cousin, Mrs. Jesse Taylor Fort Dodge; also fourteen grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven, an infant daughter, her parents and two sisters.

HUMBOLDT - Anna S. Davis, 95, of Humboldt, passed away February 15, 2011 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Anna is survived by her children, LaVonne (Emerson) Anderson of Fort Dodge, Larry (Betty) Davis of Eagle Grove, Virgil (Elaine) Davis of Humboldt, Shirley (Tim) Carlson of Humboldt, and Paul (Pam) Davis of Eagle Grove; two granddaughters; 9 grandsons; 9 great-granddaughters; 9 great-grandsons; her brother, Bill Stenberg of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents; brother, Jesse Solbeck; and half-brothers, Axel and Carl "Andy" Stenberg.
Anna Senetta Solbeck, the daughter of Danish immigrants Peter and Divert (Lund) Solbeck, was born September 6, 1915 in Humboldt County, Iowa. When Anna was four years of age, her father died and her mother later married Oscar Stenberg. She was raised and educated in Humboldt County and on December 7, 1937, she was united in marriage to Wayne Davis. The couple farmed for many years and raised their five children in Wright and Humboldt Counties. In addition to the families farming, dairy and livestock operations, Anna maintained a large garden on the farm. Wayne died in 1970 and in 1977, she moved to Humboldt. Anna maintained her home in Humboldt until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North in November of 2010. She passed away there on the morning of February 15, at the age of 95.
Anna loved the time she spent playing and cooking for her grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting which included afghans for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eleanor Fay Larick, 100, passed away on December 10, 2020, in Hayfield, MN at Field Crest Care Center.
Eleanor was born August 16, 1920, the daughter of Ellis and Lizzie (Carter) Markham who migrated from England and settled in Alexander, IA. She loved helping her dad outside on the farm and in doing so, she loved the great outdoors. Eleanor attended Rowan School thru 8th grade. She met Valley Davis and he swept her off her feet and they were married on January 5th, 1942. They farmed together until Valley passed away on June 27, 1954. She had four children and a farm. Neighbors at that time helped out all year. She ran Hilltop Café for a short while, but later moved to Lime Springs, IA to a farm. On November 25, 1961, she was united in marriage to Richard Duane Larick and in 1992 they moved to Osage, IA. Richard passed away in 1999.
Eleanor grew up with the love of her horses, starting with her first one, Buddy. She rode horses every year until she was 97. She loved the great outdoors, as gardening had been a great past-time taking care of her vegetables and flowers. She loved having her hands in the earth. Eleanor loved making bread, and was very good at it. Don’t remember her ever buying a loaf of bread.
Eleanor loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and sending cards and letters. If you knew her, I’m sure you had a letter in the mail box from her.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Dean and Carol Davis, Eyota, MN; Leonard and Dolores Davis, Independence, IA; Phil and Sherry Heydt, Hayfield, MN; daughter-in-law, Pat Davis, Lime Springs, IA; 12 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Pete Peters, Boise, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Valley Davis and Richard Larick; son, Steven Davis; brothers, Donald and Fred Markham; sisters, Gladys Leist, and Maurine Peters.
Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 1st Street NE in Hayfield, MN. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Beyer officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion, IA. Blessed be her memory.

ROWAN – Mrs. Virginia Leist, 69, who lived in Humbold (sic) most of her life, died Saturday evening (Dec. 1, 1984) at the Belmond Care Center.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Rowan, with burial at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan. Visitation is after 2 this afternoon at the Willim Funeral Home in Clarion.
Mrs. Leist was born in Humboldt County on April 9, 1915. She was raised in Humboldt and resided there for much of her life.
Survivors include three sons, Robert and Ronald of Rowan, and Roger of Dows; a sister, Gladys Korselman of Clarion, and a brother, Richard Davis of Fort Dodge.
Mrs. Leist is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Son of John and Virginia (Davis) Leist grew up on the family farm in rural Rowan and graduated from Rowan School in 1958.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in law; and one sister-in-law.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Leist; three daughters Robin (Bruce) Meyer, Roxann (Paul) Swenson, and Ronda (William) Moss; seven grandchildren Ginny (Tate) Carter, Jeff (Katie) Meyer, Eric (Amanda) Meyer, Daniel Swenson, Jessica (Eric) Marean, Alexa Moss, and Benjamin Moss; five great grandchildren Mason & Jackson Carter, Macy & Weston Meyer, and Brecklynn Meyer; brothers Roger (Carnita) Leist and Ronald (Donna) Leist; sisters-in-law Ardith Frohling and Diane Sandman; brother-in-law Randy (Pam) Frohling and numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert attended Iowa State University for one year. While there, Robert was catcher for ISU Baseball team and member of ISU ROTC. After that year Robert returned home to help his father farm and milk cows.
Married Bonnie Frohling on October 14, 1961 at the United Methodist Church in Rowan.
Robert farmed and raised cattle for his whole life.
Robert was very involved with Community Service in the Roland area, Wright County Youth and Wright County Fair and encouraged the Youth to stay involved in all areas of Agriculture.

Ronald LeRoy Leist, 74, Rowan, Iowa died Aug. 2, 2021 at Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation. Services were held Aug. 7 at the Belmond United Methodist Church. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery, Rowan.
Ronald LeRoy, son of John and Virginia (Davis) Leist, was born June 27, 1947 at the hospital in Belmond. He grew up on the farm outside of Rowan, attended school in Rowan, and graduated from Belmond High School. While in high school Ron played football, the team was undefeated all four years, and he earned his nickname, Burly.
On May 26, 1971 Burly married Donna Steenblock at the Belmond United Methodist Church. They made their home on their farm and were blessed with three children. Ron loved being on the farm, whether working the land or helping a new calf into the world. He would often drive around admiring the countryside he loved. He grew up milking cows and later raised various livestock with his kids and Donna. His biggest accomplishments were the farm and his family.
Burly loved all things outdoors, including hunting and fishing trips to Devil's Lake. He enjoyed taking his kids and grandchildren fishing and asparagus hunting. Ron always had a joke and was a great storyteller, drawing you in with his excitement. He never met a stranger. There was always an extra seat at the table. If you were hungry or needed something, Ron stepped up. His generosity was beyond measure, and he believed in The Golden Rule.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother Robert Leist. Burly is survived by his wife Donna; children LeRon Morel of Muscatine, John H. Leist (Julie Thompson) of Galt, and Casey (Cory) Schenke of Colesburg; grandchildren Tioano, Sanaai and Ericka Morel of Muscatine, and Ryker and Rowan Schenke of Colesburg; brother Roger (Carnita) Leist; and sister-in-law Bonnie Leist.

Gladys M. Koerselman, 89, died November 10, 2006 at Humboldt Care Center North.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Gunderson Funeral Chapel with visitation one hour prior the service. Interment will be held in North Lawn Cemetery.
Gladys Davis, the daughter of Stephan and Mattie (Johnson) Davis, was born on December 13, 1916 in Humboldt County. Gladys lived and attended country school in Cornith Township, Humboldt until 1931 moving to Fort Dodge to attend high school graduating in 1934. She attended Fort Dodge Jr. College and earned her college credits in Office Machines. In 1934, she was united in marriage to Edgar Prehm. To this union two children were born, Delores in 1938 and Edward in 1948. Edgar preceded her in death in 1949. After her husband's death, her sister Faye and husband William Werling took Edward to help raise him. After several years the Werling's adopted Edward, but Gladys never stopped loving him as she knew they could provide a better life for him. Gladys remarried in 1954 and moved to Bloomington, IL where the marriage ended in divorce. She was employed with State Farm Insurance and later was the manager of the Spiegel Catalog Store in Bloomington. In 1965 she moved back to Iowa and helped with her sister Virginia who was ill. She worked for Acco Seed in Belmond from 1966- 1978 before she retired. On January 6, 1979, she was married to Gerrit Koerselman in Rowan. The couple made their home in Clear Lake and later Clarion.
Gladys was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rowan and served on various church committees. She enjoyed spending time quilting and playing cards
Gladys is survived by her husband Gerrit Koerselman, her son Edward (Connie) Werling, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Edgar; her daughter Delores; and her siblings Wayne Davis, Faye Werling, Valley Davis, Virginia Leist, and Richard Davis.
