Services for Mrs. Edith Porter, 82, 4330 S. Berkley, Chicago, a former resident of Valparaiso and Kouts who died Wednesday in the Chicago Osteopathic Hospital, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Kosanke Brothers Funeral home.
The Rev. Aaron Egli will officiate with burial in the Graceland cemetery in Kouts. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
Born in Valparaiso Dec. 18, 1881, she had resided in Chicago for the past 36 years, going there from Kouts.
Surviving are one step-daughter, Mrs. Edward Ciciora, Valparaiso; and two grandsons.

MRS. C. CROSBY DIES TODAY IN CHICAGO HOME.
Mrs. Cora Crosby, wife of Garland VanNess Crosby, and a former resident of Valparaiso, died this noon at her home in Chicago following an extended illness.
She was born at Crown Point, Ind., sixty-three years ago, a daughter of the late Judge and Mrs. Elisha C. Field. Judge Field presided over the Lake and Porter circuit court from 1870 to 1890, when he resigned and was succeeded by the late William Johnston. Thereafter he was general counsel for the Monon railroad.
Surviving are the husband, one daughter, Mrs. Charles E. McGill and one son, Field Crosby, of Valparaiso; four grandchildren; one brother, Robert Field, of Wheeler, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Bernice Coleman, of Louisville, Ky.
The body will be brought to Valparaiso to the Stinchfield funeral home, corner Jefferson and Lafayette streets. Memorial arrangements will be announced tomorrow.

R. Field Crosby
R. Field Crosby, 87, of Valparaiso, a retired McGill Manufacturing Co. executive, died Sunday in Porter Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 3, 1898 in Albuquerque, N.M., the son of VanNess and Cora (Field) Crosby. His great-grandparents were Morgan and Philura Crosby whose home still stands at 252 Crosby Ave. On June 30, 1922 in Chicago he married Dorothy Dennis who died in February 1979.
He was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, American Legion Charles Pratt Post 94, Veterans of World War I, BPOE 500, Indiana Sheriffs Association, Valparaiso Coin Club and LaPorte County Historical Steam Society.
Surviving are two daughters, Marian Eason of Valparaiso and Marjorie C. Dickmeyer of Iowa; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary C. McGill of Valparaiso.
No services or visitation; cremation.

Mary M (McGill) Sievers of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully at age 84 on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Arthur B. and Ethel V. Horton VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso, IN.
She was born in Valparaiso on October 10, 1923 to the late Charles Skinner and Mary Crosby McGill.
Molly was a lifelong resident of Valparaiso. She attended Valparaiso High School, the University of Michigan and graduated from Valparaiso University.
Molly was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Valparaiso, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Tri Kappa, Valparaiso Country Club and a member and supporter of the Valparaiso Family YMCA.
On October 7, 1944, Molly married Stanley H. Christian, who preceded her in death on April 18, 1987. She married John F. Sievers, who survives. Also surviving; son, Charles (Kathy) Christian; daughter Susan (Jon) Fraley; step children; Elizabeth (Jeff) Bartholomew and James Sievers; brother, James (Joanna) McGill all of Valparaiso; granddaughter Kathleen (Dan) Britain of Suwanee, GA, Kelly (Tim) Kay of Valparaiso, Kara Christian of Gaston, IN, Mary V. Steele of Austin, TX, Sarah (Bart) Nijhof of Voorburg, Netherlands and Elisabeth Christian of Albuquerque, NM. Step-grandchildren; Kyle and Brian Bartholomew of Valparaiso, Jonathan (Jennifer) Fraley of Valparaiso and Hannah (Jonathan) Bell of Wendell, NC. Five great- grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 6, 2007, from 9am to 11am with an 11am funeral service at Dykes Funeral Home, 2305 No Campbell St., Valparaiso, IN with Rev John J. Santoro officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Arthur B. and Ethel V. Horton VNA Hospice or to Trinity Lutheran Church, Valparaiso, IN.
