JAMES D. CAIN
James D. Cain, 68, of Pleasant Hill, MO, passed away October 21, 2003, at his home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, October 24, at Park Lawn Chapel, Kansas City, MO; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. The will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
Jim was born and raised in Kansas City, MO, and attended Northeast High School. He was very active in sports as a young man and played for a short period of time in the Brooklyn Dodgers Organization. Jim was an Army veteran. He also had an interest in American History and could discuss in detail any period. He worked 16 years for the Kansas City Terminal Railroad, as did his father and brother. He retired after 26 years from the Gas Service Company, later known as MGE.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Kirsten Cain, brother, John Cain, and sister, Nadine Trapnell. He leaves his wife, Charlene, of the home; two sons, Kelly Lambert of Kansas City and Christopher of the home; three grandchildren, Kirsten Cain and Michael Routh of Blue Springs, MO, and Brandon Patience of Sunrise Beach, MO; sisters, Buddie Anderson of Pleasant Hill, MO, and Helen Brooks of Osceola, AR; sister-in-law, Norma Cain of Kansas City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be missed by friends and family.

Charles E. Kerns, 82, of Kansas City North, passed away February 8, 2004, at North Kansas City Hospital. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2004, at the Park Lawn Chapel, Hillcrest Road at 83rd Street. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Ararat Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund.
Charles was born August 12, 1921, in Waldron, MO, the son of Jasper and Estella Kerns.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Charlie worked for the Kansas City Power and Light 35 years, retiring as an Electrical Maintenance Foreman. He was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church, the Northeast Masonic Lodge and Ararat Shrine Temple. At Ararat, Charlie was a member of its Drum and Bugle Corps Unit and the Oriental Shrine Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Violet; second wife, Doris; stepdaughter, Donna Yates; and granddaughter, Kirsten Cain.
Survivors include his wife, Rose; stepdaughter, Charlene Cain; son-in-law, Bob Yates and wife, Theta; stepson and wife, Greg and Karen Bell; stepson, Gordon Bell; and Rose’s nine children, including daughters, Dorreen Kunkel and Janice Brown; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; cousins; and friends.
