TUFTS, Esther Law
Esther (Reeves) Law Tufts, a retired educator, was born October 191, 1915, in Madison, Wisconsin, and passed away July 11, 2010, in San Rafael, California.
Esther attended UC Berkeley and the University of Utah. Her parents, G.J. and Margaret Reeves, were educators. Esther’s teaching career began in Price, Utah, at the high school where her father was principal. In 1940, eager to see the world, she and a friend moved to San Francisco. Esther landed a job working for the superintendent of UC Medical Center. The following year she met Edward C. Law and the two married in 1942. At the end of WWII, they settled in Sacramento, where she and Edward raised their two daughters, Barbara and Anna Jean, and opened the Four Oaks Market. Esther lost her first husband, Edward, after 25 years of marriage. Sacramento would remain her home for more than 60 years.
Esther taught at McClellan Air Force Base and wrote several training manuals. She received her California teaching credential and counseling degree from Cal State Univ. at Sacramento. She taught typing, shorthand and Business English at Grant Union High School and was a counselor at Foothill High School. She worked in the District for 19 years.
Esther assumed leadership roles in community organizations: Center Joint School District trustee; Girl Scouts, Job’s Daughters; Sacramento Children’s Home through La Casa de los Ninos Service League at La Casa Restaurant; Riverwood Homeowners Association; the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority Alumni group; and, the PEO Sisterhood. She enjoyed bridge and needlepoint. Esther took great delight in entertaining friends and family at her Dillon Beach cabin.
Esther kept her keen intelligence and interest in the world throughout her 94 years. She maintained a lifelong passion for education, especially the advancement of women. She enjoyed discussing politics and current events. Esther lived a full life, touching many people with her wisdom and compassion, and building community everywhere she went. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Esther took great pride in her family and joy in her three grandchildren and three great-grandsons. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jim Derich of Mill Valley; son-in-law, Bill Cummings of Soquel; grandson, Zack Dench, his wife Thais, and their sons Nate and West, all of San Francisco; grandson, Brian Cummings of Oakland; granddaughter, Katherine Kellman, her husband Reed, and their son Parker, all of Mill Valley; brother, John Reeves of Glenwood Springs, Colorado; the family of Stanley Tuft; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Anna Jean Cummings, her husbands, Edward C. Law, who died in 1967, and Stanley G. Tufts who died in 2010; and her sisters, Margaret Anne Thomas; Rose Teale; and Dorothy Burt.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Esther’s life at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 21st; at AlmaVia of San Rafael, 515 Northgate Drive, San Rafael. Donations may be made in her honor to Hospice by the Bay, 17 East Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939, or to a favorite charity.

Neva M. Law, Bremerton resident and wife of former Bremerton City Council member John Law, passed away Sept. 10, 2017 after a short illness. She was born Neva Wood in Nebraska and raised in Auburn, Washington. Neva graduated from Auburn High School and married John Law in 1950. They lived in California while John served in the military and moved to Bremerton in 1955.
Neva was a member of the U.S. Navy League and volunteered with the Naval Museum and the Parent Teacher Association. She and John enjoyed 62 years of marriage together and loved traveling well into their retirement.
She is survived by her children, including: Jackie (Robert) Fojtik; grandchildren, including Keri (David) Fojtik Morgan and Mark Fojtik; and great-grandchildren: Olivia and Jax Morgan.
At her request, no services are planned.

Owen L. Campbell, 88, of Franklin, IN passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Homeview Health and Rehabilitation in Franklin, IN. He was born March 19, 1929 in Owensboro, KY to Lenard Lonzo Campbell and Emma Pearl (Baker) Campbell. He married Karen S. (Baker) Campbell on May 21, 1977 in Indianapolis, IN, she survives.
Owen was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He had been employed by Stark and Wetzel/Rath Meat Packing in Indianapolis, IN for 30 years. He later was a driver for the American Red Cross in Indianapolis, IN from 1990 till 1994. He was a member of Fair Haven Christian Church in Franklin, IN. He was also a member of the Hoosier Appaloosa Horse Club. He enjoyed participating in rodeo's in his younger days, trail riding, spending time with his horses, and spending time at the lake.
Survivors include his wife Karen S. (Baker) Campbell of Franklin, IN; four children Rodney L. Campbell (Karen) of Indianapolis, IN, Deby C. Phillips (Terry) of Lizton, IN, Randall L. Campbell (Diana) of Fishers, IN, and Donna C. Dunson (Lindsey) of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Ryan L. Campbell, Faith E D J Phillips, Vanessa Campbell, and Owen R. Campbell; brother Paul E. Campbell (Betty) of Williston, FL, and a sister Barbara F. Tate of Simpsonville, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter Patricia L. Campbell; two brothers, Otis W. Campbell and Allen Campbell; and three sisters, Ruby Clark, Elizabeth Yates and Hazel Rusher.
The Reverend Jeff Johnson will conduct a celebration of life service 1PM on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Fair Haven Christian Church, 1476 West 300 South, Franklin, IN, where the family will receive friends Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 10AM till service time at the church. Military honors will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Allendale, 4605 South Allendale Drive, Trafalgar, IN, 46181. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.

Albert Edward Luther, 81, of 1003-B Pheasant Run Drive, High Point, died Tuesday at Lawnwood Medical Center. He was a native of Champaign, Ill., and came to Fort Pierce 30 years ago from Markle, Ind. He was a retired lumber dealer. Mr. Luther was a member of Southside Christian Church; Fort Pierce Lodge No. 87 F&AM; Mizpah Shrine Temple of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Fort Wayne; Fort Pierce Shrine Club; and Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 567 of Markle.
Survivors include his wife, Irma Dell Payne Luther of Fort Pierce; a son, Howard Edward Luther of Tullahoma, Tenn.; a daughter, Linda Ruth Sipe of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Masonic services will be held today at 7:30 p.m. at the Haisley-Hobbs Funeral Home chapel, conducted by Fort Pierce Lodge No. 87 F&AM. Lodge members are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7:15 p.m. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Bro. George Mendez, pastor of Southside Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Michael Luther, David Luther, Carl Sipe, Hank Eason, Joe Bronson and Charles Terrell. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Those who wish may contribute to the Southside Christian Church Memorial Fund or Building Fund.
