Obituary – The Sacramento Bee, Sacramento, California; Wednesday, 20 FEB 2008, page B5 (Newspapers.com):
PETERSON, Susan Ann
Age 57, of Brookings, OR died Feb. 10, 2008 at her home following an illness. She was born Jan. 22, 1951 in Sacramento, CA, a daughter of Joseph Peter and Mary Adeline (Pontes) Brazil, and was raised and educated in Sacramento and Woodland, CA, and graduated from high school in Sacramento. She was married as a young woman and raised two children as a single parent while working full-time as a bookkeeper.
In 1988, she met Rex Peterson and married him one year later on Feb. 25, 1989 in Woodland, CA. The couple made their home in Woodland until 2001 when they retired and moved to Brookings. Mrs Peterson loved the ocean, and often said she felt their move to Brookings was like “going on vacation and never coming home”. In retirement, she had enjoyed being able to spend undivided time with her husband. She had a deep appreciation for life, and was an inspiration to many. While living with cancer for fifteen years, she maintained a positive outlook and focused her attention on making each day a special gift.
Survivors include her husband, Rex Peterson of Brookings; a daughter Alyce Joost Balmain of Woodland, CA; son, Lorent Joost of Roseville, CA; brother and sister-in-law, John and Patra Brazil of Harbor, OR; sisters, Victoria Felton of Sacramento, CA & Peggy McKinney of Sacramento, CA; and four grandchildren, Corrinne, Chandler, and Curtis Balmain and Kelsea Elkins-Joost. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm, Sat. March 1 at Living Waters Foursquare Church, 1136 Fifield St., Brookings, OR.

Obituary – The Idaho Statesman, Boise, Idaho; Sunday, 12 APR 2009, page A13 (Newspapers.com):
Debra Jean Joost
53 years old woman died on April 5, 2009 while doing something she truly loved, riding a horse.
She was preceded by her youngest son Justin and survived by her oldest son Kalen and husband Dennis.
Debra Jean was an accomplished seamstress, writer, chef, artist, care giver and when she put her mind to it there was nothing that she could not do. By far here (sic) greatest accomplishment and pride of her life was her family Dennis, Justin and Kalen. Deb was a great Mom and she poured her heart and soul into them. She will be missed.
For me I could not have had a better companion for over 35 years. I do regret that other people in our lives did not accept her. If they did they would have been showered with love and affection and there is nothing that she would have done for them.
Debra Jean’s wishes were for Kalen and I to spread her ashes on the mountain next to her son. Please say a prayer to God asking for her reunion with Justin, she truly has deserved it.
