ARMY NURSE TELLS OF AMBULANCE PLANE
Lieut. Anna Forrest Stationed In Far Pacific
(By William Robert Fuoss)
Once a school girl in Bellwood, later a student at American university in Washington, D. C., still later a nurse in the service of her country -- today she's "down under" -- Lieut. Anna L. Forrest, daughter of the late Dr. F. B. Forrest, Bellwood, has written friends here, telling them of life in Australia, life among soldiers who have known the horrors of combat with Japs, soldiers, sailors and marines who today are recovering their health in the immense base hospital where Lieut. Forrest serves.
"Many of them are flown to us from points far distant," she writes. "You see", she continues, "the sooner we receive them, the more we can do for them, too.
Anna Forrest volunteered for service, remained on this side for but a spell and then, at her own request, was sent into the Far Pacific.
A Christmas card came today from a far-off place, a strange envelope, the marks of the censor all over it. It was an Australian card of rare beauty and design. It was from Lieut. Anna L. Forrest, Army Nurse Corps. She wanted to be sure it was received in time for Christmas so she sent it Nov. 6 and it arrived Nov. 19.
It is singular, reading through that letter, to note that Lieut. Forrest speaks of "speeding through to VICTORY, caring for the wounded who are brought here with the greatest speed. I cannot -- dare not -- tell you what I mean but Air-borne services are quick and we do for all we can for life is sweet and precious to them, even as to us -- even as to YOU back home."
It is almost uncanny Lieut. Forrest could not have known the American Legion Auxiliary Unit of Pennsylvania were today engaged in raising $5,500,000 through the sale of "E" war bonds, to provide for the army she serves still more of those flying ambulances. She could not have known each county of Pennsylvania would have a plane ambulance named for it, including even her beloved Blair County. She could not have known that little Bellwood, her home town, was raising money, that Tyrone, where she loved to visit, was, too, engaged in the current campaign..
"It is so interesting -- so inspiring -- makes one think -- really!" said Mrs. Alton C. Woodring, sub-chairman for the state and Blair county chairman, as well, when shown the letter from the girl who no longer dreams of serving her country -- "caring for those boys" -- but who is actually doing it - IN A GREAT BIG WAY AT THAT!
The purchase of "E" bonds will help the boys of whom Lieut. Forrest speaks -- large numbers of them are from Tyrone, one such being "Chucky" Fink, former T. H. S. lad. He's in Australia today and so, also, are an approximate fifteen lads from Tyrone and outlying townships.

Word had Wednesday from Melbourne, Australia, tells of the promotion from first lieutenant to Captain of Anna K. (sic) Forrest, daughter of the late Dr. F. B. Forrest, of Bellwood. Captain Forrest is well known here, and has relatives and friends in Tyrone.
