; daughter of Rev. Henry R. and Anna Sophia (Campbell) Williams. Her mother's newspaper obituary is helpful to confirming her parents' identities.
Angus-Leader, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Wednesday, 23 MAY 1945, page 16 (Newspapers.com):
Pioneer Pastor's Widow Is Buried
Mrs. Anna Williams Resident of Sibley, Ia.,
Past 36 Years
Sibley, Ia., May 23.--Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon for Mrs. Anna Williams, 83, wife of the late Rev. H. L. (sic) Williams, who died Saturday at her home in Sibley. Rev. M.P. Arrasmith and Rev. J. A. Rotschafer were in charge of the services, held in the First Baptist church. Brief services were also held in the home at 1:45 p.m. Burial was made in the Sibley Cemetery.
Anna Sophia Campbell was born in Dedham, Mass., December 27, 1861. She was the daughter of Robert and Mary Campbell. Her father, a native Scotch merchant tailor, came to this country when a young man and established the family home at Rome, N.Y.
Family Moved to Kansas
Following the urge of the pioneer, the family came west and the family established a business in Kansas, first in Waterville and later at Marysville.
Anna Campbell completed her high school course at Marysville and continued her education in the normal school at Fort Scott, Kan. After graduation she returned to the normal school as a teacher of Latin.
Led in Church Building
On March 17, 1890 she was married to Rev. Henry L. Williams, who was one of the pioneer Baptist ministers of Michigan, Illinois, Kansas, and Iowa. Into this home four children were born, a daughter, Melita and three sons, Robert, Harold and Hervey.
The Williams family moved to Sibley in 1909 when Rev. Williams accepted the pastorate of the Sibley Baptist church. During his ministry the present house of worship was erected. Mrs. Williams assumed her place in the community, being active in church, civic, and social life. She maintained a continuing interest in the Sibley Woman’s club, serving as president for one year. She was a faithful and capable partner of her husband in the varied activities of the church.
Gave Art Lessons
She had a special talent in art, giving private lessons, working in her own studio and operating a gift shop in Sibley until failing health compelled her to retire to her home. In recent years ill health limited her community activities.
Following a brief illness, she died Saturday morning. She is survived by three sons and three granddaughters. The sons are Robert of Superior, Wis.; Harold of Fort Dodge, and Hervey of Sibley. The granddaughters are Ann Elizabeth and Ruth, both of whom are lieutenants (jg) in the U.S. navy, of Washington, D.C., and Kathryn of Fort Dodge. The husband and daughter preceded Mrs. Williams in death in 1929 and 1925 respectively.
Her sincere and unselfish devotion to her family, her church and her associates endeared her to a wide circle of friends who mourn her passing, but who cherish the memory of her life of service. She and her beloved husband leave a rich heritage to their family and to the community.

Problem discovered with some Iowa Marriage Records
Source citation: (Ancestry.com), Iowa Department of Public Health; Des Moines, Iowa; Iowa Marriage Records, 1880–1922; Volume 500 (Jackson-Osceola).
Original source data: Iowa Department of Public Health. Iowa Marriage Records, 1880–1945. Textual Records. State Historical Society of Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa. Iowa Department of Public Health. Iowa Marriage Records, 1923–37. Microfilm. Record Group 048. State Historical Society of Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa.
What appears to be a page of Iowa marriage records (microfilm image #431 of handwritten transcripts of marriage records found on Ancestry.com) exists showing a marriage 17 AUG 1921, at Sibley, of Henry H. Lutterman, age 44 (second marriage) to Melita A. Williams, age 24 (first marriage). The ceremony was performed by H. R. Williams, Baptist minister (Melita’s father). Witnesses were Grace Sonner (Paul’s sister) and Harold Williams (Melita’s brother). This page lists twelve marriages beginning 19 JUL 1921 and ending 6 SEP 1921. Henry Lutterman (1878-1938) was first married to Mabel Anna Jacobs (1884-1918) on 26 SEP 1901 at Baker, Osceola County. The problem with this apparent record is revealed by the license date under the license serial number on the left edge of the left page. It is 10 JAN 1922. So, two separate pages of a book of transcriptions were arranged side by side and microfilmed, creating the appearance of a single marriage record, when it is in fact the left (groom) side of one record and the right (bride) side of a second record.
The correct left (groom) side of the marriage of Melita Williams is found on image #433 of the same microfilm, with the right side being the correct bride (Bessie Cooper) for the Henry Lutterman marriage on 11 JAN 1922.
So the marriage date of Paul W. Sonner and Melita W. Williams was 17 AUG 1921 at Sibley, performed by her father and witnessed by her brother and Paul’s sister.
