She married John Dyer Carr on 13 April 1953 in Henry Co., OH, Ozella was Ozella Taylor as of this marriage. John was previously married on 16 FEB 1949 at Detroit to Jeannie I. Lute. His son John D. Carr, Jr. of Bowling Green, KY, born about 1952, was probably from that marriage. John was later married on 3 SEP 1958 in Roane County, TN to Flora Marie Morgan. She and John Dyer Carr were divorced before September 1958. She married Alonzo W. Garrett. She died after 1996 Ozella Garrett's name appears in publicly available telephone and address in Detroit through 1997.

Mrs. Don Colton Rites Were Held Wednesday

Death always brings grief and particularly is this true when a young mother is called from the home and family of loved ones while still in the prime of young womanhood.

Mrs. Don Colton, who has been ill for several years, but who bore her suffering with patience and rare fortitude, died at 8:40 Sunday evening October 19, 1958 at Muscatine General hospital, where she was taken the previous Friday evening.

Opal Honts, daughter of Harry and Sarah Lord Honts, was born at Conesville, Iowa. November 27, 1915, and was aged 42 years, 10 months, 22 days. The family soon afterward moved to Columbus City and September 24, 1934 she was united in marriage to Donald Colton. They made their home at Columbus City for one year them moved to Columbus Junction which has since been their home. Some years ago they built and moved to a fine modern new home on south hill.

She was a member of the Open Bible church at Morning Sun.

She is survived by her husband and two sons, Larry of Oklahoma City, who came last week to be at the bedside of his mother and Tom at home. She is also survived by her father, Harry Honts of Morning Sun, and by one sister, Mrs. Alonzo Garrett of Detroit and two brothers Lester Honts of Des Moines and Richard Honts Bettendorf.

One son preceded her in death at the age of 13 months. She was also preceded in death some years ago by her mother.

Funeral services were conducted at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Stacy Funeral home by the Rev. Virgil Elliott pastor of the church at Morning Sun.

Music was by Mrs. B.O. Roundy and Mrs. Carl Wiley who sang "We Shall See Christ" and "Home Sweet Sweet Home". Flower attendants were Mrs. Harold Hall, Mrs. Dale Deenblossom and Mrs. Keith Grenstead. Casket bearers were Harold Hall, Walter DeVore, Merle Colton, Charles Brown, Herbert Ellingson and Cleo Swaila.



She was buried in October 1958 in Columbus City Cemetery, Columbus City, Louisa Co., IA, Findagrave #6976512.

Obituary:

Services for Lester W. Honts, Sr., 85 of Anniston will be today at 3 P.M. at Noble Street Baptist Church with Rev. George Smitherman officiating. Entombment will be in Maple Grove Mausoleum. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Honts died Sunday at Wessex House of Jacksonville.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Honts of Anniston; a son Les W. Honts of Alexandria, a brother Richard Honts of Costa Rica; a grandchild Jonathan Honts and two great grandchildren Kortney Honts and Mathew Honts.

Mr. Honts, a native of Columbus Junction, Iowa, was a resident of Anniston for the past 12 years. He was retired from Thermagas in Des Moines, Iowa.

Donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Blaine Bliven died suddenly at his home in Fredonia at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 1971, from a heart attack. He was 78 years, 3 months and 16 days of age.

He was born January 22, 1893, in Columbus Junction, the son of John J. And Bessie Atcheson Bliven. He married Bertha Lord, March 17, 1914 at Columbus Junction, who preceded him in death May 25, 1965. On August 13, 1966 at Columbus Junction he married Mrs. Fannie Houseal.

Mr. Bliven was employed for many years at the local button factory.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie; three sons, Cecil and Max Bliven of Kansas City, Mo.; Lee Bliven of Estacada, Oregon; and one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Marguerite) Smith of Gretna, La.; four step-sons, Richard and Kenneth Houseal of Columbus Junction, Rolla Houseal of Burlington and John Houseal of Davenport; one step-daughter, Mrs. William (Margaret) Morgan of Columbus City; 23 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Anna) Ewing of Muscatine and Mrs. Cecil (Margaret) Schlichting of Conesville.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters and a daughter, Maxine Bliven.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home with Rev. Denley Ganfield officiating. Cecil Schlichting was organist. Casket bearers were Donald Bliven, Thomas Carey, Rex Carey, Keith Carey, Justin Dee Schlichting and James E. Van Auken.

Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Max LeRoy Bliven, 92, of Liberty, MO, passed away October 3, 2011 at his home. He was born in Conesville, Iowa, on August 2, 1919, the son of Wm. Blaine and Bertha Mae (Lord) Bliven. In 1937, he graduated from high school in Columbus Junction, Iowa, and attended college in Kansas City, MO. Max joined the Army on December 17, 1940. He served in the U.S.A. and with the 69th Infantry Division in Germany until the end of World War II, when he was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. After serving in the Army reserves until 1962, he reached the rank of Major. He was awarded three bronze stars, one oak leaf cluster and a purple heart. Max worked for North American Savings Association, becoming Vice President before leaving in 1970. He worked at the Vista del Rio Apartments for four years until he went to work for Sentinal Federal Savings and Loan. After ten years there, he retired and sold real estate another ten years. Max was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister, Maxine Mae; daughter, Patricia Ann; his first wife, Mary Levell Bliven; brothers, Cecil and Lee Bliven; and sister, Marguerite Smith. Survivors include his wife of the last 34 years, Evelyn Rose Bliven; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Jan Bliven; Evelyn's children and spouses, Randy and Mary O'Dell, Sharon O'Dell and Terry Green; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 am on Saturday, October 8th, at the Park Lawn Chapel, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138. Lee A. Bliven

Lee A. “Red” Bliven, 73, died Saturday, June 10, 1995, at the Twin Falls Clinic & Hospital following a long, tough fought battle with cancer.

Lee was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Columbus Junction, Iowa, the third son of William Blaine and Bertha Mae Lord Bliven. He moved with his family to Fredonia, Iowa, in 1923, and after graduating from Columbus High in 1938, he moved to Kansas City and then to Los Angeles, Calif. He spent four years working for North American Aviation before joining the Army in 1944. He served his country until World War II ended in 1945. On February 25, 1945, Lee married Ann Hardacre and they raised three children.

Lee was a “doer” from having his first business in Compton, Calif., to being the first person to put air conditioning in a tractor in Imperial Valley, Calif., in the 50s. His many accomplishments include starting a Forest Service Union in Grass Valley, Calif., teaching at the Job Corps in Timberlake, Ore., and serving as fleet manager in Grants Pass, Ore. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge in Parkrose, Ore. After retiring from the U.S. Forest Service in May 1986, he and Ann moved from Lakeview, Ore., to Buhl, where they found a special friend and neighbor, Karl Werth. Lee enjoyed working for his son-in-law, Wayne, and being “Pappy” to the work crews. He took great pride in the building he assisted with in the Twin Falls area. He also leaves a legacy to his family, having researched and authored the book, “The Bliven Family History.”

Lee is survived by his wife, Ann Bliven of Buhl; his daughters, Donna Lee (Wayne) Bohrn of Twin Falls and Linda (Dan) Beadle of Chico, Calif.; his son, Lee A. (Susan) Bliven II of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Wayne II and Don Bohrn, Mike, Christy and Jean Beadle, Lee III (Carla) and Vanessa Bliven, one great-grandchild, Kayla Bliven; two brothers, Cecil (Ruby) and Max (Evelyn) Bliven, both of Kansas City, Mo.; and his sister, Marguerite Smith of Dekalb, Texas. He was preceded by his parents and an infant sister.

Lee’s request for cremation will be followed by a memorial service held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 1995, at Blay Colonial Funeral Home and Crematory, 2551 Kimberly Road in Twin Falls, led by the Twin Falls area masonic lodges.

Kenneth Leroy Knickerbocker, age 90, of Moline, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Sedan, Kansas.

Kenneth spent some time as a child in the Neodesha area before his family moved to Moline where he would finish school. Kenneth was a graduate of Moline High School class of 1935. On May 28, 1939, Kenneth was united in marriage to Jean Banks in Moline, Kansas. Kenneth would go on to serve his country in the final days of World War II, spending most of the time stationed in the Philippines. After the war, he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad and retired as the District Material Supervisor.

He was a member of the Christian Church for 81 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #388 in Moline for 20 years and Gideons International for 38 years Kenneth served as a Boy Scout Leader, Troop 29 in Barstow, California. In his spare time, Kenneth loved to play golf and fish.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Knickerbocker of Moline, Kansas; three sons, Philip Knickerbocker of Madison, Alabama, David Knickerbocker of Barstow, California, and Mark Knickerbocker of North Pole, Alaska; one step-sister, Evalee Walker of Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Everett and Robert, and two sisters, Beulah Young and Armilda Stilley.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Moline Christian Church, Moline, Kansas with Pastor Stan Rumbaugh officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the church Interment will be at the Moline City Cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to either the Moline Christian Church or Gideons Internatioal and may be sent to Countryside Funeral Home, P.O. Box 247, Fredonia, Kansas. Obituary – News, Longton, Kansas; Thursday, 22 JUL 1954:

William Chamberlen, 89 years and 12 days old, passed away last Thursday in his home at Longton. Mr. Chamberlen was a farmer most of his life and was well known and respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held last Saturday at the Methodist Church with Rev. C. P. Broadfoot officiating at the service. Burial was in the Longton cemetery. The music was furnished by Marie Howland, Georgia Freeman, and Neva Morgridge was at the piano. Acting as Paul Bearers were his grandsons, Dean Arnold, Orville Arnold, Richard Persinger, and Ernest Persinger.

William H. Chamberlen, son of Joab G. Chamberlen and Rosanna (Rohrer) Chamberlen was born in Huntington, Indiana, July 30, 1865, and died at his home in Longton, Kansas, July 15, 1954.

There were two sisters and six brothers all who preceded him in death. His wife, Lillian May (Munsinger) Chamberlen, one daughter, Milly (Chamberlen) Persinger, and one son, Roscoe Giles Chamberlen, also preceded him in death.

One son, Cecil Chamberlen and one daughter, Mrs. Edith Arnold, both of Longton, still survive. There are several nieces and nephews, friends of the family extend their sincere sympathy.

Anna Margarete Molter was born on 4 August 1719. She married Michel Munzinger, son of Johann Nikolaus Munzinger and Magdalene Bischoff, on 17 June 1738 in Miesau, Palatinate. Anna Margarete Molter died on 31 July 1756.
