Obituary — Alma Scott.
After many months of patient suffering, Mrs. Alma Scott passed away at her home in Winterset, on Dec. 14th, 1905. Mrs. Scott was born in Indiana Sept. 9th, 1873, moving to Kansas with her parents in 1885. She was married to W. R. Scott, Sept. 4th 1893 and removed to Winterset in 1896, where she has resided until her death.
For the past two years Mrs. Scott had been a victim of tuberculosis, yet her struggle against the disease was heroic, and in spite of a frail physique she made a brave fight to remain with her children and husband, to whom she was intensely devoted. Her first thought was for her children and her home. She became a member of the Kansas P. E. O. Chapter at the age of eighteen, and no more loyal exponent of the sisterhood’s principles could be found than Mrs. Scott. She became a member of the Winterset Chapter several years ago, and whenever the state of her health permitted, she was always present at its sessions. By the P. E. O., she was regarded as a faithful worker and a woman in whom they could repose their confidence. A Christian from childhood, she was always charitable and optimistic, and in her death the neighbors and intimate friends have lost a true and devoted associate.
Mrs. Scott left three children, a husband, a mother, one sister, and one brother to mourn the close of a useful life, and yet the (sic) are comforted with the thought that she has gone from pain and care to rest.
The burial services were held on Friday afternoon at the M. E. church by Rev. W. R. Matheny concluding with the ritualistic service of the P. E. O. Sisterhood at the church and cemetery.—Winterset, Iowa Reporter.
Mrs. Scott was well known in Meade and has many friends who sympathize with her husband and children.

William Roberts Scott
William Roberts Scott, son of Alexander O. and Jane K. Scott, was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, near Steubenville, June 21, 1863.
The family moved to Madison county, between Truro and St. Charles, when he was three years old. When quite young, he learned the printer’s trade and as a young man traveled all over the United States in his work.
He was married to Alma Sharpe, September 3, 1893, at Meade, Kansas. They then lived for some time in Medford, Oklahoma, and later moved to Winterset. To this union five children were born. Two died in infancy and one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Hamilton, passed away in 1926. Those remaining are Grace and Clarence, in the home.
Mrs. Scott passed away in 1905, and Mr. Scott became both father and mother to his children.
After coming to Winterset, he was for many years foreman of the Winterset Reporter, and later worked for the other papers. He was an active Mason in his earlier years, but gave up his membership a few years ago. He was known as an honest and faithful workman and as one who was kind and charitable in his thoughts towards others. His finest friendships were those he made with the children who lived near him. He was still active when stricken with apoplexy on May 13, 1929, at the age of 65 years.
He leaves beside his son and daughter, his grandson Harry Hamilton, also in the home; two brothers, Tom W. Scott, of Winterset, and Edward Scott, of Arkansas City, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Hettie Leggett, of St. Charles, and many other relatives.
The Rev F. C. McCallon conducted the funeral services in the Tidrick funeral home, Thursday afternoon, May 16th, and the burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Floyd H. Hamilton
Floyd H. Hamilton, son of Joseph J. and Louisa Hamilton, was born at Pleasant Hill, Mo., December 23, 1898.
When he was eleven years of age he came with his family to Winterset, Iowa. Here Floyd attended school and graduated from the Winterset High School in the class of 1917.
He was married to Ethel Scott in April of 1919 and to them two children were born, Dorothy who died at the age of 2 years and Harry who has been making his home with the Thornton Duff family. They moved to Des Moines after their marriage and for the first year Floyd clerked in a drug store and then entered the postal service in the Des Moines post office.
His wife passed away on January 27, 1926, and Floyd continued living in Des Moines and working in the postal service.
He was married to Nelle Wall in 1928.
When a boy he attended the M. E. Sunday school and while not a member of the church he was a believer in Christ. Two of his outstanding virtues were his extreme loyalty to his friends and his faithfulness to his work. He has never been strong and in the later years worked much of the time when work would have been impossible for one of less determined spirit and he worked until the Wednesday before his death which came after an attack of pneumonia, on June 2, 1931, at the age of 32 years.
He leaves beside his wife and son Harry, his mother, Mrs. Louisa Hamilton of Winterset, one brother Oscar of Kansas City, three sisters, Mrs. Thornton Duff and Mrs. A. W. Johnson of Winterset, and Mrs. B. H. Neff of Des Moines. Beside these he leaves many friends who will long remember him for his cheerful friendliness and because of the wonderful fight he made to live.
Rev. A. P. Keast, conducted the services at Tidrick’s Funeral home Thursday afternoon, June 4th and the burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Dorothy Mae Hamilton
Dorothy Mae, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hamilton, of 1029-22nd St. Des Moines was born at Winterset, Iowa, May 29, 1919, and died at the Congregational hospital in Des Moines July 27, 1921 age 2 years, 1 month and 29 days.
She had a severe attack of measles in April from which she never fully recovered and was not strong enough to withstand an attack of bronchial pneumonia which developed Tuesday of this week. She was taken to the hospital and all that medical skill and loving hearts could do was done but God in his wisdom saw best to take her and we dare not question why.
She leaves to mourn her loss her parents and baby brother, Harry, besides many relatives and friends.
“And the Mother gave in tears of pain,
The flower she most did love,
She knew she would get them back again,
In the garden of life above.”
Funeral was held at the residence of Mrs. Hamilton’s father, Mr. Scott Friday 2:30 p. m. Sermon by Rev. Malone, of the United Presbyterian church. Burial in the Winterset cemetery.
