Obituary -- The Marblehead Reporter, 20 to 27 MAR 2014:

William Safford Macomber, age 88, of Marblehead, passed away on March 17, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. A lifelong resident of Marblehead, he was born at Mary Alley Hospital on January 16, 1926 to Harold and Vivian Macomber.

During the summer of 1942, at the age of 16, Bill met his future wife, Joanne Thomas, who was visiting his next door neighbors. They married in 1948 and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2013.

Bill was a 1943 graduate of Marblehead High School. He entered Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to study engineering where he completed his degree in 1950 after taking time out to serve in the Navy during World War II.

After graduating from RPI, Bill and Joanne relocated briefly to Salem and then built their home in Marblehead. Bill started his career at Boston Insurance Company where he learned about computer systems. He then worked at Harvard Trust before finishing his career as director of data processing for Salem Hospital from where he retired in 1988.

Bill enjoyed sailing, was an amateur ham radio operator and was an avid train collector. He attended St. Andrews Church as a youth and was active for 60 years in St. Stephen's Methodist Church in Marblehead. Bill was a Master Mason for 60 years in the Marblehead Philanthropic Lodge, the Starr King Lodge in Salem and the Scottish Rites. When he was recognized with the Mason's 33rd degree honor, he was one of the youngest at the time to receive the distinction in MA.

Bill is survived by his wife, Joanne; a brother, H. Gardner Macomber and his wife Linda of Lyman, ME; his four children: Dr. William W. Macomber and his wife Claudia of Marblehead, Ann Macomber Weaver and Kenneth Winter of Auburn, ME, Scott T. Macomber and his wife Colleen of Naperville, IL , and Jon P. Macomber and his wife Elizabeth of Beverly; grandchildren: Camden E. Tadhg, Bradford J. Macomber and his wife Regina, Trevor T. Macomber and his wife Kelly, Laura E. Macomber, Jonathon T. Weaver, Matthew S. Macomber, Kelly Macomber Heintz and her husband Christopher Heintz, and Wesley E. Macomber; great-grandchild: Marabella S. Macomber; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held later this spring. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Methodist Church, 67 Cornell Road, Marblehead, MA 01945 or North Shore Medical Center (Salem Hospital), Development Office, 81 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970. Arrangements by the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, Marblehead.



He was buried in March 2014 in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead, Essex Co., MA, Findagrave #46078925.

Lee Bernard "Bernie" Andrews was born on 9 October 1924 in Johnson City, Washington Co., TN; son of Lulet Forest and Mary Ruth "Ruth" (Lusk) Andrews. He married Martha Elizabeth Smythe, daughter of William Francis Burgess "Shorty" Smythe and Florence Lotspeich "Toodie" Browder, on 14 February 1948. NASHVILLE – Robert Andrews, age 58, Nashville, February 21, 2009.

Preceded in death by parents, Bernie and Bettie Andrews. Survived by his loving family: sisters, Carol (Gary) Burleson and Beverly (Keith) Anders; nephews, Chris, Ben and Elliott Anders.

A graduate from Science Hill High School and East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. He was a computer drafting technician at Ragan Smith Associates, Inc. for 30 years. He will be sadly missed by all of his co-workers who will be hosting a celebration of life in his memory on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, 4-6 pm at Ragan Smith Associates, 315 Woodland St., Nashville.

The memorial service will be offered at 1 pm, Saturday, February 28, 2009, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 500 N. Roan St., Johnson City, where he was a member.
