Obituaries -- (Findagrave.com):

(1) "Please remember me as I was, healthy, happy, and trying to make you laugh."

James Ray 'Doc' Jones, 64, left us on Saturday, April 20, 2013 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Except for 4 years in the Air Force, he was a lifetime resident of Johnson City.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Alice Corder, who died giving birth to him. Also his wonderful parents who adopted him, his mom Norma Treadway Jones and his dad Raymond M. Jones.

He is survived by: his loving wife, and best friend for many decades, Sherry L. Jones; brother, David McHone, and his wife Sherry, of Stevens Point, WI; son, Bret Jones, and his wife Cindy, of Hampton; daughter, Christy Trivette, and her husband Don, of Maumee, OH; daughter, Eve Justus, and her husband Otto, of Cedar Bluff, VA; and his friend for over 60 years, Randy Erwin, and his wife Wilma, of Johnson City. He will also be missed by his grandkids, other relatives, and a whole lot of friends.

After the Air Force, Doc joined the Washington County/Johnson City EMS in 1974 and in 1979 was one of six first paramedics in East Tennessee. He was a paramedic before retiring after 36 years of service. Following retirement he became an advocate for seat belt safety on school buses. He also volunteered with the local rescue squad for many years. He often said his life was blessed in many ways, especially his parents, his wife, his kids and his friends. He also said that to have a job in EMS was a huge blessing in than he got to help people who needed help.

But he said, many times, that his biggest blessing was that he found his wife Sherry. He was able to enjoy the life he had been blessed with in so many ways.

Doc was known to always have the 'joke of the day' for his friends. Since he was a young child he loved to make people laugh. Doc said many times how laughter made people not only feel good but also made him feel good to get them to laugh. He was a stand up comedian for years and then developed his own game show similar to 'Lets make a deal', which led to shows around the southeast and then led to his own television show. Over a decade ago his hobby (and he said passion) became playing poker -Texas Hold-Em- with the Tennessee Poker league in Johnson City. He made some great friends there and ended up with him actually playing twice in the World Series of Poker.

For those who wish memorials may be made to the Washington County Volunteer Rescue Services, PO Box 783, Johnson City, TN 37605.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 from 1:00 pm until time of service at 3:00 pm at Morris Baker Funeral Home in the South Chapel under the direction of Chaplain Matthew Barber and Rev. Mike Woodward.

Pallbearers will be the Honor Guard and members of Washington County/Johnson City Emergency Medical Services.

"I hope you had the time of your life."

Memories and condolences may be shared with the Jones family through www.morrisbaker.com.

(2) Members of the Washington County/Johnson City Emergency Medical Services are mourning the loss of a leader. James "Doc" Jones passed away this weekend of complications from pneumonia.

"Everybody's hurt, a little bit shocked," said Dan Wheeley, EMS Executive Director, "it was relatively sudden, some of the guys talked to him on Wednesday and he was talking about getting out of the hospital then."

One of six in the very first class of paramedics in Johnson City, Doc's love for emergency services helped bring first responder service to the area.

Jones was instrumental in forming the Ambulance Authority in the mid-70s, then helping bring about their merger with the Johnson City Rescue Squad in 1980.

That formed what we now know as the Washington County/Johnson City EMS.

"He was a pioneer for that," said Wheeley, who worked with Jones for 17 years, "and a champion for it throughout his entire career... it's people like Doc that have made us what we are today."

James "Doc" Jones was 64 years old. He is survived by his wife and three children.

He was buried in April 2013 in Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton, Carter Co., TN, Findagrave #109020338.
James Ray Jones began military service Vietnam War service, U.S. Air Force, four years enlistment.

The Rev. Dr. Charles Floyd Murphy retired minister of the historic Walnut Hills-Avondale Methodist Church, died Wednesday at St. Margaret Hall in Evanston. The former East Walnut Hills resident was 93.

The Rev. Dr. Murphy had been the minister of Walnut Hills-Avondale Methodist Church in East Walnut Hills for 30 years.

Prior to being appointed to the church by Bishop H. Lester Smith, the Rev. Dr. Murphy served as a chaplain for the Army and the B-29 Air Force Combat Unit in the Mariana islands.

He also served as chaplain of the Sixth Bombardment Group and rode in the bombardier’s seat of the first of 300 B-29s as they flew over Japan on the first day of surrender during World War II.

The Rev. Dr. Murphy did other missionary work including a tour of several Air Force bases in summer 1953. He was one of two civilian pastors chosen by the Air Force for an annual Protestant preaching mission to northern air bases, including those in Alaska, Newfoundland and Greenland.

The Air Force presented him with a citation after his tour.

The Rev. Dr. Murphy was responsible for many programs started by the Walnut Hills-Avondale Methodist Church, including a lay ministry and a telephone prayer service.

The lay ministry offered “young men of college age to act as assistant ministers for two consecutive Sundays helping me in the pulpit.” he told The Cincinnati Enquirer in 1976, the year of his retirement from the church. “It familiarizes them with the structure and significance of worship.”

The Rev. Dr. Murphy conducted a radio program during the 1950s, The Pastor’s Study, answering listeners’ questions regarding religion.

In 1953 and 1954, the Rev. Dr. Murphy acted as chairman of the Protestant Festival of Faith in Cincinnati.

Before serving as a chaplain for the Army, the Rev. Dr. Murphy was chief minister at the Monroe Street Methodist Church in Toledo, with a congregation of more than 2,500.

He received a doctorate in divinity from Ohio Northern University in Ada and was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and a postgraduate of Northwestern University and Drew Theological Seminary.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth of Evanston; a son, Craig Murphy of Charleston, S.C.; two grandsons and a great-grandson.

Joanne Dorothea Thomas was born on 28 May 1926 in Tennessee. She married William Safford Macomber on 5 September 1948. She died on 4 May 2015 in Salem, Essex Co., MA,

Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

MARBLEHEAD: Joanne (Thomas) Macomber passed away, peacefully, on May 4, 2015, at the John Bertram House in Salem, Mass. She was born Joanne Dorothea Thomas on May 28, 1926, in Johnson City, Tenn. to Earle and Helen Thomas.

Although she was raised predominantly in the Northeast (Rye, New York), Joanne loved her southern roots, spending much time over the years with her mother's family in Johnson City. The smell of honeysuckle and gardenias would always bring back fond memories of Tennessee. Joanne loved all things in nature but especially the ocean. She spent the "summer of '42" in Marblehead when she was 16 years old. She fell in love with not only the town but also her next door neighbor, Bill Macomber.

After graduating from Mount Holyoke College in 1948, she and Bill were married on September 5th, at her parents' home in Rye, N.Y. While Bill finished college at RPI, Joanne worked in an orphanage as a social worker. After returning to Marblehead, caring for children was a thread throughout her whole life as a stay-at-home Mom, raising four children, always welcoming neighbors and friends. She then taught pre-school at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Marblehead. She went on to become the best grandmother ever to eight grandchildren, who all adored her. She will be missed by more than just her family. She was loved by all who knew her. Her smile would warm hearts; her loving, accepting, kind nature was enjoyed by everyone in her life.

Joanne was predeceased by her brother, Gordon Thomas and by her beloved husband of 66 years, William Safford Macomber. She leaves behind her sister, Betsy Thomas Amin-Arsala and her husband, Hedayat, of Washington, D.C. She will be forever missed by her children: William (Skip) W. Macomber and his wife, Claudia, of Marblehead; Ann Macomber Weaver and her partner, Ken Winter, of Auburn, Maine, Scott T. Macomber and his wife, Colleen, of Naperville, IL; and Jon P. Macomber and his wife, Elizabeth, of Beverly and her grandchildren, Camden E. Tadhg; Bradford J. Macomber and his wife, Regina, Jonathan T. Weaver, Matthew S. Macomber; Kelly M. Heintz and her husband, Chris; Wesley E. Macomber; Trevor T. Macomber and his wife, Kelly; Laura E. Macomber; and her great-granddaughter, Marabella S. Macomber. "Auntie Jo" will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.

The Macomber family thanks the loving staff at the John Bertram House of Salem, the staff of Care Dimensions of Danvers, and the staff of Private Home Care of Marblehead.

A celebration of Joanne's life will be held at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Marblehead on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's United Methodist Church, 67 Cornell Road, Marblehead, MA 01945 or to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B102, Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead. Please visit the online guest book at www.eustisandcornellfuneralhome.com.
