ERWIN – Robert L. Clark, 76, Rt. 5, Jonesborough, died Friday in Unicoi County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was a native of Washington County and a son of the late John B. and Flora Haire Clark.

He was a retired construction worker for Wright and Lopaz. He was a member of the Knob Creek Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Keefauver Clark; four daughter, Mrs. Mary Emma Slonacker, Jonesborough; Mrs. Phyllis Keesecker, Johnson City; Mrs. Jean Fetters, Johnson City; and Mrs. Patty Barnett, Nashville; one sister, Mrs. Robert Sherfy, Mt. JOHN A. SLONAKER

John Andrew Slonaker, 47, Rt. 1, Lamar community, Jonesboro, died unexpectedly at his home Monday from an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Slonaker was the son of Mrs. Ruby H. Slonaker and the late Frank Slonaker.

A veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater, he was graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he received his B.S. degree, and of East Tennessee State University where he obtained an M.S. degree.

In 1950, he was a teacher for the Veterans Administration farm program.

He was a guidance counselor at the former Sulphur Springs High School and, at his death, served in the same capacity at David Crokett High School.

He was a member of the Jonesboro Presbyterian Church and its choir.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Emma Clark Slonaker; one son, Danny, of the home; two brothers, Bob and David, both of Jonesboro; two nieces and one nephew.

Dillow-Taylor is in charge.

Keefauver twins wedding candlelight ceremony at Central Christian Church

The double wedding of Rita June Keefauver and Jim Max Ingram, and Zita Jane Keefauver and Edwin Wayne Tolley took place yesterday at 7 p.m. in the Central Christian Church of Jonesboro.

The brides are the twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Keefauver of Rt. 5, Jonesboro.

Mr. Ingram is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ingram of Rt. 1, Jonesboro. Mr. Tolley is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Tolley of ___ Way, Erwin.

Robert O. Fife performed the double-ring ceremonies before an alter decorated with greenery and burning tapers. Windows were decorated with greenery and poinsettias. Pew bows were of white satin ribbon and wedding bells.

The were given in marriage by their fathers. They wore identical floor-length gowns of imported hand-clipped Chantilly-type lace featuring a scalloped neckline embroidered in pearl beads and long pointed sleeves. The overskirt covered rows of crystal tulle ruffles and was highlighted with sequins. Their princess-like crowns were covered with sequins and pearls and held bouffant veiling of Illusion. They carried bouquets of roses with a white orchid in the center.

A program of nuptial music was presented by Dickie Wright and Mrs. Johnny Slonaker, cousin of the brides, who were soloists; and Mrs. James Huffine, organist.

Ann Keefauver, cousin of the brides, gave a recitation of “How Do I Love Thee” by Elizabeth Browning.

Attending Mrs. Tolley as matron of honor was her sister, Mrs. Bob McCracken.

She wore a red velvet dress featuring a bell-shaped skirt and scooped neckline. Her headpiece was of white velvet with a nose veil. She carried a white fur muff topped with a red poinsettia.

Bridesmaids were Mrs. David Slonaker and Joan France. They wore dresses identical to Mrs. McCraken’s and carried white fur muffs topped with red carnations.

Attending Mr. Tolley as his best man was his brother-in-law, D. C. Byrd.

Candle lighter was Bob McCracken, brother-in-law of the brides. Ushers were Gordon Foster and Ray Rutherford.

The bridegroom’s mother wore a beige brocade sheath and jacket with matching accessories and a white orchid corsage.

Mrs. Edwin Tolley graduated from Jonesboro High School where she was a member of the Civitans and a marshall of the class of 1960. She is employed at a local department store.

Mr. Tolley graduated from Unicoi High School and is presently employed at Davison Chemical Division in Erwin.

Following a wedding trip to Daytona Beach, Fla., the couple will be at home at 310 N. Elm St., Erwin, after Dec. 8.

Attending Mrs. Ingram as maid of honor was her cousin, Sandra Keefauver. She wore a red velvet dress with bell-shaped skirt and scooped neckline, and carried a white fur muff topped with a red poinsettia. Her headpiece was of white velvet with a nose veil.

Bridesmaids were Eva Eisenhower and Shirley Hampton of Boone, N.C. They wore dresses identical to that of the maid of honor and carried white fur muffs topped with red carnations.

Attending Mr. Ingram as best man was Richard Hoss.

Paul Ingram, brother of the bridegroom was candle lighter. Ushers were Tony Clift and Darell Rowe.

The brides’ mother wore a sheath dress of taupe lace featuring a silk organza overskirt and scoop neckline. She chose matching accessories with an orchid corsage. The bridegroom’s mother chose a street-length dress of robin-egg blue with an orchid corsage.

Mrs. Jim Ingram graduated from Jonesboro High School where she belonged to the National Honor Society, and was a marshall of the class of 1960. She is employed at a local ladies shop.

Mr. Ingram graduated from Lamar High School and attended East Tennessee State College. He is presently dairy farming in Jonesboro.

The couple will be at home in Jonesboro following a wedding trip to Niagara Falls.

A rehearsal dinner was given at the brides’ uncle’s restaurant on South Roan Street in Johnson City.

Out-of-town guests for the wedding included Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Riddle and Patsy of Spring City, Tenn.; Mary Thatch of Maryville; Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Hampton of Boone, N.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Shipley of Kingsport; Tray Beverley of Kingsport.

ERWIN – Zita Jane Keefauver Tolley has taken the right hand of her Lord and gone home with her Saviour. Jane was born June 8, 1943, with her identical twin sister, Rita June Ingram. She died, Sunday, September 6, 2009 at 12:30 PM after an extensive stay in the hospital. Jane was 66 years old.

She was the daughter of Lucille Keefauver, of Jonesborough, and the late Billy Joe Keefauver.

Jane was a member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist Church, where she had served as an assistant Sunday school teacher and was a former member of the choir. She had served as treasurer, secretary and president of the Erwin Business and Professional Women's Club. She was secretary of the Unicoi County United Way for 14 years. While in the United Way, she served as the executive chairman of the Unicoi County Relief Fund.

Jane was a certified Red Cross Advanced First Aid instructor and had taught several classes. She was a member of the John Sevier Chapter of the D.A.R., and was past president of the Erwin Get Acquainted Club. Jane served in the Mother's March of Dimes and was a past consumer consultant of the Tennessee Superior Home Health Advisory Board.

She had served on the Washington County Foster Child Care review board and was a past president of the Martin Chapel P.T.A. and a Cub Scout mother. Jane was a past member of the Erwin Band Boosters, and was the past president of the Erwin Circle Left Square Dance Club.

She owned her own business: "Jane's Bear Necessities Gift Shop," at the Sheraton/ Holiday Inn Hotel in Johnson City for 20 years. She was a charter member of the friends of the library in Erwin and was a charter member of the board of directors for 5 years and was president-elect.

Jane was very active in the TFWC/GFWC, where she had been a member for over 40 years.

On the local club level, she had served as Chairman of Arts, Chairman of Conservation, Chairman of International Affairs, Chairman of Public Affairs, Membership Chairman, Program Chairman, 3rd Vice President, 2nd Vice President, 1st Vice President, President and Parliamentarian. On the District Level, she served as: 1st Vice President, 2nd Vice President, Parliamentarian (2 terms), Home Life Chairman, Public Relations/Communication Chairman, President, where under her term, she helped lead District 1 to 1st place in the state, and she also served as Chaplain for 2 years.

On the GF/TFWC State Level, she held the positions of: International Affairs Chairman, Trade and Aid Chairman, Arts & Crafts Division Chairman, Music & Dance Chairman, Very Special Arts Chairman, Arts Department Chairman, Leadership Chairman, Chaplain and Resolutions Chairman. Jane was also a member of the England Society, where she was chosen as the Outstanding Woman for the TFWC and was chosen for the Tribute of Honor.

Other than her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents: Robert & Fannie Keefauver; and grandmother, Mattie Harshbarger.

She is survived by her mother, Lucille Keefauver, Jonesborough; her husband of 47 years, Edwin W. Tolley, Erwin; her son, Joseph Christopher Tolley (Chris), of Erwin; sister & brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob McCracken, Rogersville, twin sister and brother-in-law, June and Jim Ingram, of Jonesborough; sister-in-law and husband, Janice & D.C. Byrd, of Erwin; nieces: Lisa Hill, Robyn Jones, Candice Elmore, Dawn Hill, Pam Bailey and Sandy Byrd; 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews; 1 great-great niece, and 1 great-great nephew.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 8:00 PM in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Rev. Harold Blankenship, Rev. Larry Tolley and Rev. Steve Hill officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until the service hour.

Interment will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009, at 10:00 AM in Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin, TN. Friends and family are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 9:50 AM. Honorary Pallbearers are Bob McCracken, D.C. Byrd, Steve Hill, Jim Ingram, Tommy Jones and Mike Bailey.
