Fuss Ends In Murder

St. James Man Shot in Back

VIENNA (Special) – David Arnold Dablemont, 31, of Vichy, is being held in the Maries County jail here today on charges of second degree murder.

Dablemont is accused in the slaying of Franklin Delano Gaddy, 22, Route 3, St. James.

The murder occurred about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Sgt. T. W. Pasley and Trooper W. E. Ayres, of Troop I state patrol headquarters at Rolla, who investigated the incident along with the Maries County sheriff.

The officers reported that Dablemont, Gaddy and Glenn Eugene Nappier, 25, Sullivan, had been together most of the day Thursday, working on Dablemont’s car at the latter’s home part of the time, and apparently drinking part of the time at a tavern in Rolla.

About 6:20 p.m., an argument developed when Gaddy told Dablemont he wanted to drive the latter’s car after his (Gaddy’s) wife. Despite Dablemont’s protests, Gaddy apparently got into the Dablemont car and started to drive away, the patrol said.

Dablemont got his .303 British Enfield, the troopers said, and fired five shots. At least one of the shots hit Gaddy in the back. The slug which struck Gaddy first passed through the rear window of the car.

Gaddy was rushed to the Phelps County Hospital at Rolla, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Charges of second degree murder were filed against Dablemont last night by the Maries County prosecutor after he had been informed of the incident.

Gaddy’s body was taken to the Null Funeral Home in Rolla.
