Essie Vera (Keasling) Bushie Hale, 92, formerly of St. James, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Essie was born on June 25, 1927, in St. James, the daughter of the late Sherman and Essie (Jones) Keasling. She was united in marriage to Leonard Taylor Bushie, who preceded her in death on April 27, 1988.

Essie worked as a seamstress for California Manufacturing in St. James, where she later retired. She was a longtime member of the St. James First Christian Church. She moved to Sandpoint to be with her daughter in 2012. Essie loved life and had a sharp mind with a keen sense of humor. She loved being around her fur babies, watching the hummingbirds feed, and listening to her favorite tunes on her cuckoo clock even if it didn’t tell the correct time. She loved kicking up her heels and spending time with good friends line dancing and playing cards.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Clawson of Sandpoint; son Steven Bruce Bushie of Eldon, Mo.; two grandchildren, Brenden Clawson of Portland, Ore., and Cameron (Flora) Clawson of San Francisco, Calif.

She was also preceded in death by her four sisters, Gladys Howard, Mildred Bartle, Margaret Keasling, and Nadine Wools, and two brothers George and James Keasling.

Services will be held at a later date. As per her wishes she will be cremated and laid to rest with her husband in the St. James Cemetery. Funeral Home in Sandpoint is handling the arrangements.

She was buried in January 2020 in St. James Cemetery, St. James, Phelps Co., MO, Findagrave #206532466.

Biography

Lee Harrison Bushie was born on 2 December 1959 in Camp Zama, Japan. He married Catherine Elizabeth Schwanke on 12 June 1998 in Clark Co., NV; Catherine was a Twillman when she married Lee Bushie, so she probably had a least one Twillman child. She was listed with the Twillman surname in undated public records in Jefferson City and in Rolla. Schwanke families are found in multiple areas of Missouri, but her birth date does not appear in Missouri birth records, so she was apparently from elsewhere. He died on 11 August 2007.

He was buried in August 2007 in St. James Cemetery, St. James, Phelps Co., MO, Findagrave #216539435.
Lee Harrison Bushie lived from 1982 to 2001 in St. James, Phelps Co., MO. He lived in 2006 in Rolla, Phelps Co., MO. Cause of death:

HERMANN, MO.

Rolla man's body found in Missouri River

The body of a man from Rolla, mo., was found in the Missouri River near Hermann early Saturday, the Missouri State Water Patrol said.

Lee Bushie, 47, had been missing and presumed drowned since he disappeared Thursday night in the Osage River near Loose Creek in Osage County.

His wife, Cathy Bushie, told authorities they were boating and decided to anchor and go swimming. She said they swam too far from their boat and decided to swim for the shore, but her husband never made it.

Gasconade County sheriff's deputies recovered the body at 6:29 a.m. Saturday. The Osage River flows into the Missouri River and the water Patrol said the body was about 38 miles downstream from where Bushie disappeared.
