Biography

John Kinkeade was born on 10 November 1828 in Missouri; son of John and Elizabeth (Thompson) Kinkeade.1 He married Julina Davault daughter of Jacob Davault and Mary "Polly" Hodges, on 17 August 1848 in Crawford Co., MO. John Kinkeade died about 1852 in California (probably); from Tracy DeVault:

The following is from Eve (Kinkeade) Bossert's genealogy of the Kinkeade family:

"The story of John Kinkeade is as sad as that of his brother James, but he was not forced to go to war. I have a discharge for John Kinkeade form Capt. E. H. Shepards Co. A, Missouri Volunteers, but I do not believe it is our John because of the age given (32). This John was enrolled May 8, 1847 and discharged Aug 20, 1848. Uncle Herman told me that Julina was given a pension because of his service but I have never been able to find her pension application. At any rate he and Julina were married Aug. 17, and the discharge record gives his being separated on Aug. 20 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The facts just don't agree"

Later in the genealogy Eve adds the following:

"This is a good time to finish the story of John Kinkeade's trip to the goldmines. My cousin Rae Freise told me that the ones who made this trip met and embarked from LeDuc Church. I do not know how long they were gone or how successful any of them were, but John sent Julina a ten dollar gold piece. There is some indication of foul play on the way home, at least the family had their suspicions aroused by story told to them by a man, believed to be a relative, that Uncle Herman called Sabbthic Glenn. I believe his name was Tobathic. We will never know!"
