Biography

Emma Catherine Brown was born on 15 November 1871 in Missouri.1 She married John Franklin Moran on 16 November 1892. She died on 21 April 1895 in Kansas

Obituary -- The Democratic Messenger, Eureka, Kansas; Friday, 26 APR 1895, page 1 (Newspapers.com):

For the third time in the past nine months the dark angel, Death, entered our community last Sunday, April 21st, this time claiming for his own, Emma C. Moran, the beloved wife of John F. Moran and the only daughter of L. P. and Mary Brown.

Emma was born in Missouri November 15th, 1871, but soon removed with her parents to Butler county, and thence to this township where last all her life was spent. She was an industrious scholar in school, an obedient, gentle and considerate daughter, a recognized favorite in society, a devoted wife and an earnest, active christian. On November 16, 1892, she became the wife of J. F. Moran and this proved to be a happy though brief union. The deceased leaves an infant son, who has never known a loving mother's care.

The funeral services, conducted by Rev. Hale, of Woodson county, and Rev. George Johns, of Eureka, were held at the Union Schoolhouse at 2 o'clock pm., on Monday and were attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends, after which the remains were interred Greenwood cemetery. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.

"It is not the tear at this moment shed,

When the cold turf had just been laid o'er her,

That can tell how beloved was the friend that's fled,

Or how deep in our hearts we deplore her.

'Tis the tear through many a long day wept,

'Tis life's whole path overshadowed;

'Tis the one remembrance fondly kept,

When all lighter griefs have faded.

Thus her memory, like some holy light,

Kept alive in our hearts will improve them,

For worth shall look fairer and truth more bright,

When we think how she lived but to love them.

And, as fresher flowers the sod perfume,

Where buried saints are lying,

So our hearts shall borrow a sweet'ning bloom

From the image she left in dying."

A Friend.

Connie Jeannette Wait was born on 6 January 1949 in Eureka, Greenwood Co., KS. She married Charles Starr Bruce on 12 December 1969 in Sacramento Co., CA; the Texas divorce record shows the marriage was 22 JAN 1968, but no record of that has been found. The divorce record also indicates there was one minor child. However, the obituary of Charles' mother, Mary Ann (Starr) Bruce, lists her three children and all of her grandchildren by name, and does not list any children for Charles.
