Faw-Powers Wedding Is Beautiful Event At Stately Bristol Home
BRISTOL, Oct 15. - One of the interesting and beautiful weddings of the autumn season was that of Miss Katherine Powers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh W. Powers, of Fairmount to Mr. Harry Faw, of Johnson City, Wednesday evening at "The Columns", the stately home of the Bride's parents on Spruce street. The commodious home so well adapted to entertaining large social assemblies, was filled with many friends and relatives. The decorations were flowers in all the shades of orchid, gold and white, placed effectively in wicker baskets throughout the lower floor, which was charmingly arranged with festoons of English ivy, tall palms and ferns.
Mrs. H. W. Reynolds, Mrs. Edwin Powers, Miss Carolyn Rangely of Johnson City and Mrs. O. L. Jones received the guests.
The ritual of the marriage sacrament was impressively read by Dr. J. L. Rosser, pastor of the First Baptist church in the living room at an improvised altar of flowers lighted on either side by cathedral candles. Preceding the ceremony Miss Ruth Henderson of Council, Va. sang "All For You" and "Still is the Night", accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Arthur Hooks, who also played the bridal chorus from Lohengrin and Mendelsohn's wedding processional.
The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Margaret Powers, maid of honor. Little Miss Dorothy Powers, a niece of the bride, was flower girl and Mr. Fitzhugh Wallace was the groomsman's best man. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a gown of flesh crepe Elizabeth fashioned with round neck, long sleeves edged with cream silk lace, with points of lace set in the sleeves. The exquisite lace was used in deep points to adorn the front of the gown, and the cape effect affect and skirt in the back. She wore satin slippers in flesh color and hose to correspond, and carried an arm bouquet of butterfly roses, orchids, lilies of the valley and maidenhair fern with a French shower.
A reception followed the ceremonial. Receiving in the living room were Mrs. Herman Dickey, Miss Lillian Flenniken, Mrs. James Powers, Miss Eileen Roller, Mrs. Arthur King, Mrs. Eugene Fletcher, Mrs. A. J. Edwards, Misses Blanche Carrier and Margaret Reeder. Mr. Faw and bride left for a bridal trip to eastern cities, after which they will return to reside at Johnson City.
Mrs. Faw was educated at Virginia Intermont college in Washington, D. C. and at Columbia university, where she graduated. She is a lovely young woman with a wide circle of friends.
