Obituary -- (Findagrave.com Memorial #220804931):

Marilyn Reeves Baldocchi passed away peacefully on November 7, 2020 at the age of 100 in the home in which she lived with her family since 1964.

A direct descendant of California pioneers and ranchers, Marilyn was born August 7, 1920 in Salinas, CA to Dr. W. Rollin Reeves of Jonesboro, TN and Arline C. Abbott of Salinas. With her one brother, Dr. William A. Reeves, she spent her childhood in Salinas and also on the family cattle ranch on Fremont Peak near San Juan Bautista, CA after it was purchased by her father in 1929. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in English literature and pursued an interest in short story writing. Over her lifetime, she wrote numerous poems as well.

In the late 1940's Marilyn spent a year living in Hawaii where she taught ballroom dancing through Arthur Murray's studios while she learned the hula from the famous Beamer family on the island of Oahu. When she returned to California she created a private dance studio in the Fairmont Hotel teaching hula to individuals traveling to Hawaii. She also worked as a medical secretary in San Francisco and on the Salinas Air Force Base during WWII. In 1953 she married San Francisco native Donald F. Baldocchi. They had two children, Donald and Raquel, whom they raised in the city as well as on the Gabilan Ranch. She later became a passionate grandmother to her two grandsons, Chase and Will Baldocchi.

Marilyn celebrated the annual holidays with great enthusiasm; decorating her home for Valentine' s Day and Easter; hosting Halloween and Christmas parties. She was known for her exclamation " Fall is in the air…" every year in early June.

Marilyn was known and loved among her family and friends for her exceptionally positive attitude. She was never one to dwell on difficulty or negativity. Each year at the extended family's Easter gathering at the ranch she would write a poem about the current family goings-on and always encouraged us to adapt to the inevitable changes that come with living. Her presence in our lives has helped us to be resilient and grateful.

Marilyn is survived by her two children, Donald Baldocchi (Julie Chase) and Raquel Baldocchi, her grandsons Chase and Will Baldocchi, niece Lauren Reeves Boyle, and nephews
Bill and Mike Reeves. She is predeceased by her husband Donald F. Baldocchi, her brother William A. Reeves and her son-in law, Alexander Reyes.
