Donald Owen Smith was born on 23 November 1925 in Lima, Allen Co., OH. He married Eloise June Joseph about 1947; a step-son, Michael L. Hall, age 5, born Ohio, was listed in the Donald O. Smith family on the 1950 census of Lima, Ohio. He was apparently the son of Eloise from an earlier relationship. No definite evidence of this Michael Hall was found after 1950 -- he may have taken his step-father's surname. DLB 2026. He died on 12 December 1999 in Liberty, Union Co., IN,

DONALD O. SMITH, 74, of Commerce City, Colo., formerly of Lima, died Dec. 12, 1999, at the residence of his cousin, Lowell Burwell, in Liberty, Ind.

He was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Lima to Harold and Rowena Armentrout Smith.

Mr. Smith was a truck driver and had been a police officer for several years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II serving on the minesweeper USS Raven during the invasion of Normandy.

Survivors include two sons, Preston Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mark Smith of Denver; three daughters, June Rayner and Sue Lee, both of Lima, and Rowena Smith of Denver; several brothers and sisters; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

There will be no services or visitation.

Arrangements are by Showalter-Blackwell-Long Funeral Home, Baker-Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Ind.

Eloise June Joseph was born on 30 December 1926 in Allen Co. (probably), OH; daughter of Virgil Miller and Helen Lucille (Fraunfelter) Joseph. She married Donald Owen Smith son of Harold Byron Smith and Etta Rowena Armentrout, about 1947; a step-son, Michael L. Hall, age 5, born Ohio, was listed in the Donald O. Smith family on the 1950 census of Lima, Ohio. He was apparently the son of Eloise from an earlier relationship. He died of health complications.

Born Jan. 1, 1948 (sic), in Lima, Ohio, he was a son of Donald and Eloise Smith.

He leaves behind a loving wife, Tessie; five children, Jess, Betsy (Robert), Margaret (Jim), Preston, Jr., Michael; five grandchildren, Preston, Patrick J., Makelia, Brendon, Patrick; and siblings, Mike, Sue (Dick), Renee, June.

Susan J. Lee, 61, died peacefully at 9:35 a.m. Dec. 28, 2010, at St. Rita's Medical Center, with her family by her side.

She was born Jan. 1, 1949, in Lima to Donald and Eloise Joseph Smith, who preceded her in death. On June 4, 1966, she married Richard R. Lee, who survives in Lima.

Mrs. Lee had worked at McDonald's, Service Master and, most recently, as a caregiver for Comfort Keepers. She was a member of Lima Community Church of the Nazarene. She attended Bath High School. She loved to bake cakes, sew and play cards. She was a 12-year survivor of breast cancer. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and the Bible group at her church.

Survivors also include two sons, Richard P. (Kristin) Lee, of Lima, and Randall Sean (Julie) Lee, of Cache, Okla.; two daughters, Kerrie (Michael) Miller, of Spencerville, and Sherrie J. (Becky) Lee, of Irving, Texas; seven grandchildren, Christopher Lee, Alyxandra Lee, Asia Lee, India Miller, Olivia Miller, Ricky Lee and Kyra Lee and another on the way; a great-granddaughter, Lilly May; two sisters, June Rayner and Rennie Smith; a brother, Donald Mark Smith; a half-brother, Mike (Teresa) Hall; her mother-in-law, Betty G. Lee, of Lima; two sisters-in-law, Tessie Smith, of Tennessee, and Ann Rice, of Lima; a brother-in-law, John E. (Liz) Lee, of Lima; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Preston Smith; and her father-in-law, Harry R. Lee.

Services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Lima Community Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Cindy Porter will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Richard "Dick" Randall Lee, 81, passed away the morning of Friday, December 29, 2023, at his home in Lima.

Richard was born on July 20, 1942, in Lima, Ohio, to Harry R. and Betty G. Boss (Keenan-Zwiebel) Lee. On June 4, 1966, he married the love of his life, Susan J. (Smith) Lee, who preceded him in death on December 28, 2010.

Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1964 – 1966.

He retired from Ford Motor Company in 2003 where he worked both assembly and maintenance. Richard previously worked at Rinks and Lima Tank Plant.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grand and great-grandchildren.

He was an auxiliary member of the Bowersock Brothers VFW Post 6772-Spencerville. He was a former member of the Tri-County CB Club. His and Susan's handles were King and Queen of Hearts.

He enjoyed summers at the Maumee River, most recently camping at Lucy's 22, and loved his "river" family. He religiously ate at Bob Evans on Tuesday and Friday mornings at 7 a.m. with his fellow Veterans and Ford Retirees. Richard was a member of Lima Community Church of the Nazarene. As an adult, he found the Lord and was saved. He eagerly volunteered and served as parking lot attendant for many years.

He is survived by son, Randall Sean (Julie) Lee of Spencerville, OH; daughters, Kerrie (Michael) Miller of Spencerville, OH and Sherrie (Becky) Lee-Dennis of Irving, TX; daughter-in-law Kristin Lee of Lima; grandchildren: Christopher Lee, Alyxandra (Benjamin) Bingham, Asia (Michael) Stumph, India (Brad) McGovern, Olivia (Dale Gauche) Miller, Richard T. Lee, Kyra "Virgo" Lee, and Gabby Lee-Dennis; great-grandchildren: Lilly May, Harper, Rowan, Calli, Wesson, Evelyn, and Theodore; brother, John E. (Liz) Lee; sisters-in-law: June Frost, Ann Rice, and Teresa Hall.

In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard P. Lee; his parents, Harry and Betty Lee; parents-in-law, Donald and Eloise Smith; and brothers-in-law, Preston (Tessie) Smith, Mike Hall, and Donald Mark Smith; sister-in-law, Rennie Smith.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, Ohio. The funeral service will begin at 1p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Lima Community Church of the Nazarene. Pastor Chip Bullock will officiate. It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Patrick Lee announces his sudden passing, on Wednesday, April 30, 2020, at the age of 52. He was born May 19, 1967, in Lima, Ohio, to Richard and Susan (Smith) Lee. Upon graduation from Lima Senior High School in 1985, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a 462x0 - Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist. Upon returning to Lima, he joined the United States Army/Ohio Army National Guard serving as 88M, 11B, 19K, & 14S from September 1990-June 2007, when he retired from the service. While serving in the guard, he was activated for Operation Iraqi Freedom, mobilized as a detachment of the Ohio Army National Guard attached to the U.S. Army's 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized). He was then deployed to Forward Operating Base Ironhorse in Tikrit, Iraq for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in honor of his meritorious achievements.

In civilian life, Richard studied computer programming at Lima Technical College from 1990-1994.

He was employed for many years at The Lima News working in their IT department and most recently has served as the Network Administrator at Your Hometown Stations/Lima. In the summer of 2000, Rick met the love of his life, Kristin (Fisher) Lee. They married in May of 2002 and raised two beloved children, Richard Timothy and Kyra Kristine Lee. Rick spent much of his free time doing what he loved. While he loved playing saxophone for Alumni Band and countless community theatre productions, he also enjoyed "sitting in" to perform with a local cover band for various gigs. He has always been an avid bowler. Rick has bowled in many leagues in the greater Lima area. One of his proudest moments in bowling was his first "300 Game" in December of 2018. The second was to become the coach for the Lima Senior Girls' Bowling Team this past season. In the last few years, Rick has been passionate about various 5K races, Savage Race, as well as cycling. Rick had recently become a proud member of Team Roadrunners Bicycle Club and has put in thousands of miles to this date.

Richard was preceded in death by his mother, paternal grandparents Harry R. and Betty G. (Keenan Zweibel) Lee and maternal grandparents Donald and Eloise (Joseph) Smith.

Left to honor his memory are his loving wife of 18 years, his children, his father, siblings Randall (Julie) Lee of Cache, Oklahoma, Kerrie (Michael) Miller of Spencerville, Ohio, and Sherrie (Becky) Lee-Dennis of Irving, Texas, nieces Alyx, Asia, India, Olivia, and Gabriella, nephew Christopher, great-nieces Lilly, Harper and Calli and great-nephew Rowan, several aunts & uncles, many cousins and the most amazing group of friends that are all family.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 7th from 6-8 pm and Friday, May 8th from 2-8 pm at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. A private family service will be held Saturday morning at Trinity United Methodist Church. The service will be digitally accessible for viewing that day on Rick's Facebook page. A formal burial ceremony and Celebration of Life will take place in Lima at a later date. Memorial donations in memory of Richard can be made in his name to Coleman Professional Services of Lima, or a charitable organization of your choice.

Richard Patrick Lee began military service in 1985 U.S. Air Force service, enlisted, Aircraft Armament Specialist. Upon completion of his USAF enlistment and return to Lima in 1990, he joined the Ohio Army National Guard and served from SEP 1990 to JUN 2007, including deployment to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and receipt of the Bronze Star.
