Boyd

Boyd

David L. Boyd immigrated from County Antrim, Ireland to the U.S. in 1868, proceeding directly to Mt. Vernon, Iowa -- one suspects there was some communication or knowledge on his part, regarding some of the Irish immigrants already settled there, along the road now named "Irish Lane" -- including the Jeremiah and Nancy (McElhenny) Smyth family, and their daughter and son in-law Martha and Thomas Craig.  David Boyd went to work at Thomas Craig's lumberyard, married his daughter Margaret, and eventually bought out his partner and became sole owner of the lumberyard, later passing it to his son James Craig "Jay" Boyd.
