U.S. Congressman. Born in Hillsboro, Ohio, he graduated from Miami University, in 1834, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1835 and commenced to practice law in Hillsboro, Ohio. He was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives in 1841 and a member of the Ohio State constitutional convention in 1850. In 1869, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-first and Forty-second Congresses, serving until 1873. After his term, he was a member of the Ohio State constitutional convention of 1873 and resumed the practice of law. He died at age 77 died in Hillsboro, Ohio. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith.)

He was buried in 1892 in Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, Highland Co., OH.
