SWITZER - WILLIAM D., 54, 405 James Blvd., Signal Mountain, died Sunday morning in a local hospital. He was the son of the late Wade and Irene Fields Switzer. He was a member of the Unitarian Church. He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, attended Williams College in Boston, and Tuft College in Massachusetts, where he was a member of the V-12 program. He was a member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Singing in America, and a member of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers. He was employed with Combustion Engineering for over 28 years as senior manufacturing engineer. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a vetran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jean DeVault Switzer, Signal Mountain; four daughters, Mrs. Vicki Curtiss, Charlotte, N.C., Terri Switzer, Charlotte, Diane and Denise Switzer, both of Signal Mountain; brother, Eugene H. Switzer, Savannah, Ga.; aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Monty Schoaf, Knoxville; two nieces and one nephew. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Chattanooga Memorial Park, with Rev. Jack Wilkinson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Unitarian Building fund or a favorite charity or organization. Arrangements by Ted T. Coulter Funeral Home, 801 Vine St.

SAN DIEGO -- Robert O. Whitebread, 83, died of natural causes at his Point Loma home on March 19, 2015. Bob was born in Sterling, Illinois, in 1931. He attended Grossmont High School and graduated from SDSU, where he played rugby. Bob served in the Navy for two years and played basketball on the Navy team while stationed in Japan. He worked as a Director of Parks and Recreation in the following cities: El Cajon, Modesto, Monrovia and El Centro, California. He spent most of his career in San Diego, working for the State of California's Employment Development Department, assisting vets in finding employment. Bob's final position before retiring in 1995 was as an instructor with the Transition Assistance Program, which helped returning and retiring vets to acclimate to civilian life, create a career path and find employment. Bob made an impact on the lives of many young people and vets as a mentor, coach and friend. In the late 1970s Bob enjoyed working part-time as a house manager at the old Fox Theatre. He had the pleasure of meeting many fine actors, and was proud to have escorted the great Lena Horn, Rosemary Clooney, and Sammy Davis Jr. from the theater. Bob and wife Phyllis enjoyed traveling abroad, and they were regulars at the La Jolla Playhouse and the San Diego Symphony. Bob enjoyed playing chess, gardening, cooking and spending time with his loyal dog Barney while watching basketball. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Phyllis Whitebread, his four children, Lisa Whitebread (Lakeside, CA), Bob Whitebread, (Salem, OR), Steve Whitebread (Greensboro, NC), Julie Whitebread Meyers (Bettendorf, IA), and stepchildren Andrea Boyles (San Diego, CA), Scott Boyles (San Diego, CA) and Kevin Boyles (Bozeman, MT). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He will be deeply missed. A celebration of life will be held privately with the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Diane Marie Davault passed away in Estacada, Oregon August 5, 1999 at the age of 55 from respiratory failure. Diane was born on March 15th in Chicago, IL and lived in east San Diego County until 1981 with her husband David G. Davault and two sons. Her maiden name was Thorburn. In 1981 she moved to the Portland, Oregon area where she remained until her death. Diane worked in the home raising her family and serving as the bookkeeper for several family businesses.

Diane's husband of 36 years David passed away on June 5th of this year. Survivors include her sons, Douglas and partner Dr. Clark McDonald of West Linn, Oregon, Geoff and his wife Anna Marie of Milwaukie, Oregon, granddaughter Hillary also of Milwaukie, her mother Hester Thorburn of McCall, Idaho, sister Kathy Swain also of McCall, brothers James Thorburn of Aloha, Oregon, Robert Thorburn of San Diego, CA and Thomas Thorburn also of San Diego. A private memorial was held for Diane and David in McCall Idaho. The family suggests memorial donations to the Clackamas County Special Olympics or favorite charity.
