KATE L. HENDRICKS wife of Lewis C. Hendricks, died at her residence near this place on Wednesday morning, at 7:30 o'clock, of cancer of the stomach. She had been sick about two years, and although hopelessly ill, she waited with patience and fortitude the inevitable results. Mrs. Hendricks, whose maiden name was Herold, was born in New York state about 45 years ago. Came here with her parents in 1857, and was married to Mr. Hendricks in 1863. She united with the M. E. church a number of years ago and lived an exemplary christian life, beloved by a large circle of friends. She leaves a husband and four children to mourn a loss irreparable. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon, Rev. Satterfield of Franklin Grove, officiating, and neighbors and friends in large numbers were present to pay a last tribute of respect to her memory. The warm sympathy of the community is extended the sorrowing family in their affliction.

Obituary -- (Findagrave.com):

Amy O'Neal was born on January 2, 1881, in Mount Carroll, Illinois, to Ann Elizabeth (Annie) Lambert, age 39, and Oliver Dudley O'Neal, age 52. Her parents and grandparents were hotel keepers.

Amy married Percival Redfield "Percy" Emmert in Mount Carroll, Illinois, on November 11, 1903, when she was 22 years old. Percy was the grandson of Pastor David Emmert (1804-1857) who had founded Mount Carroll by building the first gristmill in the area on Waukarusa Creek in 1842.

Percy and Amy had five children between 1905 and 1913. A daughter, Helen, passed away in 1914 at the age of 3.

Sometime before 1909, the family moved to Avoca County, Wisconsin. They lived in Avoca in 1910, and Dodgeville in 1918 where Percy worked as a Deputy Internal Revenue Collector out of a Madison federal office. On September 12, 1918 Percy complied with WWI draft registration requirements and listed Amy as his nearest relative.

Amy O'Neal died on September 12, 1918 (October 28 per Wanger book), when she was 37 years old. She probably died in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, but we have no direct evidence of it. Her body was returned to Mount Carroll for burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.1
