Hayes Alexander Cornelius was born in October 1889. He died on 12 September 1918 in St. Mihiel, France, Killed in action in France during WWI. Co. E, 6th Reg. Left his $10,000 life insurance policy to his parents - none to his child.

He was buried in Otsego Methodist Church Cemetery, Otsego, Muskingum Co., OH.

Note: Was fined in 1916 $1,000 for court costs, bail, and child support, which was paid by his father, Wilbur. Hayes was originally buried on the site of the St. Mihiel battlefield. Later was exhumed and reburied at the Red Cross Cemetary in France. Was once again exhumed and reinterred with full military honors at Otsego Methodist Church Cemetery in Ohio.

Murdered. Was hit in the back of the head while going down stairs to the basement. Her husband was allegedly out mowing in the field at the time -- her father in-law John Lusk was also a possible suspect but no evidence to connect him to the murder was ever found.

John Lusk was placed in a nursing home shortly after the murder.

She was buried in July 1969 in Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, Guernsey Co., OH.
