John Neuschwanger was born on 20 March 1742 in Frederick Co., VA.¹ He married Margaret Good about 1766. He died on 13 July 1821 in Middleport, Meigs Co., OH.² He was buried in July 1821 in Middleport, Meigs Co., OH.

John Neuschwanger was also known as John Niswanger. He began military service in 1774 in Frederick Co., VA, where he was listed as "Ensign" in Captain Peter Helphenstine's Company which was sent to the Ohio Valley to subdue the Indians in "Dunmore's War", and fought in the Battle of Point Pleasant, 10 OCT 1774. Upon breaking out of the Revolution, on 29 DEC 1776 Niswanger enlisted in Captain John Lemon's Company of the 13th Virginia Regiment, from Frederick County, holding the rank of sergeant. He was referred to as "Capt." Niswanger in assignment of rations to his company in 1777. His unit was at Ft. Henry in February 1778 and was at Ft. Pitt in the fall of 1779. He took the rank of Lieutenant Colonel on 3 MAY 1780 and was listed at his home in Frederick County as "Col. John Nisewanger" in a 1782 census of Frederick County.³ He lived.⁴

Note: Michael Wolfe, second husband of Maria Brombach, was a "chain bearer" for a surveyor in Virginia. A lawsuit was filed in Gallia County, Ohio on June 12, 1809 accusing John Neuschwanger (son of Maria by her first marriage) of having fraudently kept property that should have passed to her children from Michael Wolfe. The lawsuit dragged on for a dozen years and was eventually decided in favor of Neuschwanger. (Gallia County, OH, Chancery Book "F" pp. 123-141.)

Elizabeth Wolfe was born in 1759 in Shenandoah Co., VA. She died after 1819.

Jacob Lotz was born on 21 December 1761. He married Sarah Wolfe, daughter of Michael Wolfe and Maria Gertraut Brombach, on 22 December 1782. Jacob Lotz died on 13 January 1839 in Gallia Co., OH.

Mary Wolfe was born in 1766 in Frederick (now Shenandoah) Co., VA. She married Peter Hoffman, son of Peter Hoffman and Ann, on 29 May 1787 in Shendandoah Co., VA, Ceremony by Rev. Simon Harr. Mary Wolfe died about 1849 in Strasburg, Shenandoah Co., VA.
