Biography

Elizabetha Brumbach was born about 1715 in Germanna Colony, Orange Co. (now), VA. She married Stephen Hatzenbühler before May 1735 in Opequon Settlement, Frederick (now Shenandoah) Co., VA, When Rev. Johann Casper Stoever, a Reformed minister from Pennsylvania, made the first of several trips to Virginia in May, 1735, Elisabetha Hartsenbuehler stood as sponsor for a child of Philipp Kleesz. This is the earliest record of the Hotsinpiller family in Virginia, and proves that Stephen and Elisabetha were married prior to spring of 1735. Biography

Stephen Hatzenbühler was born about 1710 in Palatinate, Germany,

Probably from the area of Ottersheim and Hassloch, where families of the surname resided in the early 1700s. Various German spellings include Hatzenbühler, Hatzenböhler, Hatsenbieler, and Hassenbüler. The mother of Christopher Kauffman who married Sarah Hotsinpiller was Anna Catherina Hatzenbühler, from Hassloch, who married Augustine Kauffman and emigrated to America with him in 1739 and settled in the Shenandoah Valley. The village of Hatzenbühl, Germany, is located just south of Landau, and is famous as the center of German tobacco growing.2

He married Elizabetha Brumbach, daughter of Melchior Brombach and Maria Elisabetha Fischbach, before May 1735 in Opequon Settlement, Frederick (now Shenandoah) Co., VA, When Rev. Johann Casper Stoever, a Reformed minister from Pennsylvania, made the first of several trips to Virginia in May, 1735, Elisabetha Hartsenbuehler stood as sponsor for a child of Philipp Kleesz. David DeVault was born on 27 August 1813 in DeVault's Ford, Washington Co., TN.1 He married Mariah Cox, daughter of John Cox and Priscilla McCray, on 22 February 1838 in Washington Co., TN. David DeVault died on 19 April 1884.



Note:

David DeVault (as he always spelled his name) was the fourth child of Frederick and Margaret Davault. He was born on the joint homestead of Frederick and Valentine Davault. When he was about five years old he moved with his parents to Leesburg. He lived at the DeVault Tavern until 1838, when he married Mariah (Marie) Cox. David was a prominant man and farmer. He and Maria owned a farm about six miles from Greenville on the Nolichucky River.

David gave each of his children a clock with wooden wheels and weights. It was an "Eli Terry," perhaps the first clock commercially made in the United States. Mrs. Maude (DeVault) Tucker has the clock that David gave her father, John A. DeVault. It has two weights that go up when the clock is wound.

Biography

Hans Brumbach was born about 1565 in Muesen, Nassau-Siegen (now in Nordrhein-Westfalen), Germany. He married Enchgen Almecher, daughter of Hans Almecher, in 1588, Shons Hans in der Brumbach, as he was referred to in the late sixteenth century, and Enchgen had 13 children born between 1590 and 1615, but most died in childhood, three of them in the plague of 1599. At least four sons survived them, two of whom were named Jost. Hans was still living in 1639, the last year he is mentioned in the church register. Toward the end of his life he was referred to simply as Hans Brumbach.2 Hans Brumbach died after 1639 in Muesen, Nassau-Siegen (now in Nordrhein-Westfalen), Germany.
