Col. Reuben Searcy
M, #53246, b. 1729, d. 1815
Biography
Note:
Searcy information from Terry Searcy.
Reuben Searcy (b.1729) married Susannah Henderson; date of consent from Samuel and Elizabeth Henderson, parents of Susannah, stating that she was under the age of 21 years. Witnessed by Richard Henderson (Susannah's brother) and Ann Henderson. Susanna Henderson was born 23rd April 1742. Her brother Pleasant Henderson wrote the following of Susannah and Reuben Searcy:
“She married Reuben Searcy, her mind was only moderate, but was of an amicable & industrious Turn [sic]. They lived in Granville County (for) many years and had Seven or eight children. Her husband was Clerk of County Court of Granville many years. He was a man of insolent habits but possessed of good-mind. In January 1787 (unreadable word) his wife died in child-bed. Asa – their first son was a good soldier was in several battles in S. C. and was wounded in the celebrated battle of “Eutaw Springs” (09-18-1781). Bennet their secon(d) son, studied law, obtained license and removed to Nashville & I believe was eventually promoted to Judgeship. His brother Robert went also to Nashville & soon in consequence of a strong & well regulated mind and gentlemanly deportment became very popular. They [the brothers] married sisters and soon both (of the sisters) died. Their father married a Miss Jett and soon afterward resigned his Clerkship, sold his lands and removed to Kentucky he again sold out and then removed to Tennessee. He lived to be a very old man. He had many children by his last wife..”
