Richard W. Riddle
RALEIGH – Richard W. Riddle passed December 24, 2001 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 21, 1937 in Omaha, NE to the late David L. Riddle Sr. and Grace V. Riddle. He earned his law degree from Washington and Lee University and began his legal career in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In 1975 the Riddles moved to Maggie Valley, NC where he practiced law and was known as the “Farmer-at-Law.” He became a Department of Revenue Director in 1993 and moved to Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his brother David L. Riddle Jr. and his sister Anne P. Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Norma P. Riddle, his son Norman C. Riddle and his wife Jeanette, his daughter Ellise R. Steagall and her husband Mike, his son Daniel R. Riddle and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on St. Mary’s St. In Raleigh, NC on Thursday, December 27, 2001 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Grace Church in the Mountains, Waynesville, NC on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at 12 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, DUMC 3828, Durham, NC 27710 or Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC 27605.
He was buried in December 2001 in Grace Episcopal in the Mountains Columbarium, Waynesville, Haywood Co., NC, Findagrave #88265918.

Lauderdale High School and attended the University of Florida and the University of the South, Sewanee, TN. He served as an Army Officer in Korea. Mr. Riddle was in the Title Insurance business in Broward County for many years. He is survived by his loving wife, Ann R.; and will be sadly missed by his four children, Kimberly Riddle-Smith (Stephen B.) of Tallahassee, FL, David L. Riddle III, Randolph R. Riddle and Kristen R.
