Biography -- (Findagrave.com):
Michael Pence
One of the first pioneers to Adams County
Drowned in the Ohio River when horses bolted from ferry while attempting to cross.
MICHAEL PENCE appears to be the Michael Bentz, son of Michael Bentz, who was born or baptized on 12 Mar 1738, according to the records of Trinity Lutheran Church at New Holland, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; died 25 Dec 1799 in Adams County, Ohio, drowning while attempting to cross the Ohio River when his horses bolted from the ferry, with inventory of his estate being returned 17 Jan 1800 in Adams County
Married Sybilla (Isabella, Ibby, Civie) Frye 29 Dec 1767 in Berks County, Pennsylvania (she is called the daughter of Henry Frye of Maidencreek Twp, Berks County
She remarried to John Davidson 6 Oct 1803 in Adams County and later sought and obtained separate maintenance
"Michael Bens" is called the son of Michael of Earl Town, Lancaster County, on the record of his marriage and his father may have been the Michael Bentz, age 27, who came on the ship Loyal Judith in 1732, but no evidence has been found to show that this is the case
Michael Bentz of Earl Town apparently is the one who married Anna Elizabeth Huber (Hoover) 10 May 1737 in Lancaster County; Michael (Jr.) moved to Shenandoah County, Virginia, in the 1770s and then about 1796 he moved with his family to Adams County, where he was among the earliest settlers.
Some of the children of Michael and Sybilla (Frey) Pence are listed in the records of Old Pine Church in Shenandoah County, Virginia.
