JOHN PRICE POWELL DIES IN HOSPITAL
John Price Powell, Jr., son of the late John Price Powell and Nellie Fullington Craig Powell was
born February 22, 1897, at New Florence, Missouri and passed away June 29, 1951, at St. Mary's
Hospital in St. Louis.
He spent his early years in New Florence and served his country during the first World War. After
returning from service he attended Chillicothe Business College. He then served as manager of Kroger
stores until he went into business for himself in St. Louis.
He was married to Miss Myrtle Beckman of Jefferson City, who survives him.
He also leaves to mourn his passing three sisters and brother: Blanche Scholten of St. Louis, Elsie
Saak of Montgomery City, Harry and Edna Powell of New Florence, and many other relations and
friends.
A brother, Earl Powell and a sister Nellie Sanker, preceded him in death. He attended the
Methodist and Presbyterian Churches throughout his life.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. No. 246, Montgomery City, Missouri.
Funeral services were conducted on July 2nd at the New Florence Methodist Church by Brother
Harold Nebel and Masonic services were held at the New Florence Cemetery where interment was
made.
He was buried in July 1951 in New Florence Cemetery, New Florence, Montgomery Co., MO.

JOHN VOGT POWELL DIES IN CALIFORNIA
John Vogt Powell was born at New Florence, Missouri, on May 11, 1894, a son of Robert Lee and Emma Vogt Powell. He passed away at the home of his son John in San Diego, California, on June 25, 1952, age 58 years one month and 14 days.
He was married to Elizabeth Fenton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1917. To this union were born two sons: Charles Lee and John Vogt, Jr.* His wife preceded him in death in 1923.
He is survived by his two sons; one grandson; his father, Robert Lee Powell; three brothers: Tom of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Lewis of Elmonte, California, and Raymond of St. Louis; two sisters: Mrs. Mae Brockensick of Bellflower, and Mrs. Julia Quintal of St. Louis.
Mr. Powell served two years in World War I in Germany**. In 1921 he went to California, lived there for 25 years, coming back to Missouri in 1946. He moved to Denver, Colorado two years ago. His health began to fail and he spent seven months in hospital at Denver. The last two weeks of his life were spent with his son John and wife in California where everything was done for him that was humanly possible.
Last rites were held in Merkley-Austin Chapel of San Diego, California, on Tuesday, July 1st. at 10:0 a.m.; officiant Rev. Omo E. Tyler; organ music by Merkley-Austin Artist. Interment was in Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery of San Diego.
He was buried in June 1952 in Ft. Rosencrans National Cemetery, San Diego, San Diego Co., CA.
John Vogt Powell began military service WW I, private, Co. L, 125 Infantry, 32 Div.
