Ruth Cox Powell, 92, of Tempe, AZ died at 11:50am on April 26, 2018 at Friendship Village of Tempe Health Care Center.

She was born in New Castle, PA, November 30, 1925 to Howard and Eleanor McMillin Cox. She graduated from Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1946 and later matriculated to Case-Western Reserve University where she earned a BS in Nursing in 1950. She worked as an RN until marrying Lt William V Powell in 1956. During their years as a military family Ruth and Bill lived in San Diego, Guam, Okinawa, Hawaii, Norfolk, and Washington, DC. Ruth resumed her nursing career in 1977 and after retiring in 1986 followed her grandchildren to Albuquerque, NM and then on to Phoenix, AZ. Ruth was an avid and nurturing grandparent who cherished the relationships that developed with each of her seven grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dr Eleanor Powell Stanley and Philip Stanley of Chandler, AZ and her son and daughter-in-law, William and Sally Powell of Indianapolis, IN, seven grandchildren, her sister, Esther Koppenhaver and her brother, William Cox. She is preceded in death by her husband William.

Ruth will be buried with her late husband, William V Powell at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, DC.
