Lois McCracken, age 24, and daughter Sandra, age 8 months, were listed on a Pan American Airways, Inc. Air Passengers Manifest for a flight departing Burbank, California to Honolulu, Hawaii on 13 FEB 1947. This was the trip referenced in Tracy's note below.

Lois is of Chinese ancestry. Her family lived in Hawaii where her father was a foreman on a cattle ranch. Her first husband was John Robert McCracken. Their daughter, Sandra Lee McCracken was born in Los Angeles County, California. (I have not been able to find a record of this birth in the California Birth Index.) About October of 1946 Lois returned to Hawaii thinking that John would follow shortly. Later he obtained a divorce in Tijuana, Mexico. (William Bruce Gillmore's genealogy states that Lois was a widow. Since John Robert McCracken did not die until 1991, this was in error.)

Lois married Harold Gillmore Brooks in September of 1953. Their daughter Wendy was born in Hawaii. The following obituary is believed to be that of one of Lois' brothers. If so, Lois was still alive in 1998 and still using the Brooks surname. In 2003 I provided some information to Lon McCracken who was trying to locate his half-sister Sandra.

Richard Ah San Ung, 85, of Hilo, a retired employee of the County of Hawaii Tax Office, died Saturday in Hilo Hospital. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by sisters Ah Ying "Bingo" Wong, Margaret Chang, Eloise Stolz, Lois Brooks and Eleanor Chu, and brothers Apio, Harold and Edwin. Services were private. Memorial donations suggested to Hospice of Hilo.

OBITUARY:

J. Harvey Collins, of Two Taverns, died suddenly at 2:15 a.m., January 12. He retired in his usual good healh the night before, and his death, caused by apoplexy, was therefore, very sudden.

Mr. Collins was a well-known and respected citizen. He was in the 82nd year of his age. He leaves a wife and eleven children, 8 sons and 3 daughters, to survive him. The sons are T. O., John A., Wm. H., of Mountjoy township; Charles S., of Kansas City, Mo.; V. A., of McSherrystown; James A., of Littlestown; F. J., of Baltimore, and E. J. of Newport News. The daughters are Mrs. Wm. Althoff, of Mountjoy Township; Jannie, at home, and Anna Regan, of Baltimore; also one brother, Nelson F. of Mountjoy township, and one sister, Jane, of Bonneauville, survive him.

Funeral Monday; interment at Bonneauville, the sons present acting as bearers.

Mr. Collins was a kind husband and father and friendly neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a staunch Democrat and lived his whole life in the immediate vacinity.

Edna Mertel

Edna Mertel was born January 11, 1913 and died peacefully on June 10 2001. She is survived by her son Charles, grandchildren Peter and Scott; and her beautiful great granddaughter Bella Reece. Graveside service will be offered on the weekend of June 24th at Fairmont Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
